Do you have a wood deck around pool? HElp
Do you have a wood deck around pool? Help please
Looking to get a deck for our semi inground pool. Getting estimates for both wood and trex but I think wood might be the only deck we can afford. For those of you with wood, are you happy with it? Is the upkeep as horrible as I keep hearing? Do you get many splinters? See lots of warping? If you had to do it over again would you get wood or wait until you could afford trex or similar? Thanks so much!

We have cedar around a semi inground. My DH hates the maintenance. It needs to be stained every other year to look good and the hardest part is the spindles of the railings. It's the bane of his existence when it's time to do it.
we don't ever get splinters, but cedar is a soft wood so it does tend to split and crack in parts.
What has made it worse is our loop lock cover. That cover puts a lot of tension on the wood planks and we have had to repair and replace a few.
we would love to replace with trex but in addition to the cost we are not sure the trex would work with the loop loc cover. Composite boards don't give as much and the pressure of that cover might snap trex boards. We haven't looked into it much but of you have a loop loc or plan to ever get one it is something to consider

I had a wood deck around out pool growing up. I still can remember the splinters. Ours wasn't even right around it. We had brick and then a wood deck but we still had splinters all the time!!!!

my parents have a wood deck around their semi. splinters happen but not that many.
they sell that thick wood paint thats good for keeping wood form splintering

We had one that was warping terribly and the splinters were such a hazard potential. We had it ripped out and put in pavers instead.
