Anyones 1 year old still take 2-3 naps a day?

My ds will be 1 in 2 days and on most days he will still take 3 naps, some days it is 2 but it is never 1.

He wakes up at 645ish and needs a nap around 9ish. He will sleep for an hour to hour and a half and then wants to sleep again around 1ish. And if that naps is less than 2 hours he will need another one from like 4-5pm.

I know this is a lot of naps for his age. I really try to keep him up for longer stretches but he becomes so cranky and rubs his eyes and basically begs for a nap.

I have brought it up to his dr and although they seemed a lil concerned did not offer any reasons as to why he may need to nap so much. I have researched online and haven't found much. I am definitely getting a little worried.

Some extra info: he sleeps from about 730pm until 630-7am. He may wake up once or twice crying but will usually fall back asleep quickly if we go rub his back. He is happy and very playful when awake. He is meeting all his milestones but he does get sick often. Colds, many ear infections (may need tubes), etc.

Any info or feedback would be appreciated

I don't know, but that doesn't seem crazy to me. DD was still solidly taking 2 naps at a year. She gave one up at 15 months. Her sleep schedule at a year was
630-7am; Sleep. She'd sometimes wake up, but mostly sleep through the night.
930-11: Nap
1-4 Nap

She was basically sleeping for around 5 hrs during the day. Which I'm doing the math correctly is about the same your guy is.

My older daughter took two naps until 18 months and still naps 80% of the time at almost 4. I think napping is fantastic for kids (and their brain development.) If he's meeting all his milestones I wouldn't be concerned.

I just read an article that said 15 or so hours of sleep a day is normal for many one-year-olds, which is what it sounds like your son is getting. If he needs the sleep, then it's probably good that he's able to sleep so much & isn't fighting it & getting overtired.

DD is 14 months and she still takes two naps a day. She usually wakes up around 7:30-8ish, then goes back down again from about 11:30-1. Then naps again from about 4-5 and goes to bed at night around 7:30-8pm.

DD is 14 months and still takes 2 naps a day. She wakes up around 6-630 and goes down for a nap around 930-10, for about 30-40 minutes. She will take a 2nd nap around 1, again for 30-40 minutes. She goes down at 7 for the night.

I think I worry more about the fact that he doesn't have a long wake time. Meaning he only goes about 3 hours inbetween naps.

My DD is 21 months and still takes two naps a day. I wouldn't worry. That seems pretty normal for a 1 year old.

I don't think that's too short of wake time span at all. It's enough time to eat, sleep, and play. Same as when he was a newborn and infant. My DS didn't convert to one long nap until closer to 18 month and at 15 months was solidly taking 2 naps a day. I think you're fine.

Totally my son.

He's now 18 months and has, from when he was 12 months until now - he has transitioned down to one LONG nap, like 2-3 hours vs. the three, then two shorter (1-1.5 hour) naps.

He also sleeps 12-13 hours a night.

It's nuts. The kid loves sleep.
