Vacationing/flying without kids... Scared to fly without them!

My husband and I are going to the Caribbean for our anniversary. (So lucky I know!). I was so excited when we booked the trip but as it is getting closer I am having major anxiety about flying without them. I have always been a nervous flier and have become consumed with fear that something will happen to the plane and they will have no parents. I know this is irrational since driving together is more dangerous than flying, but I was jus wondering if anyone else here flies with their hubby alone and if they had similar worries... And possible suggestions to ease my irrational fears. Thanks!!

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but have you thought about taking separate flights if you're that worried?

Re: Vacationing/flying without kids... Scared to fly without them!

We've done it 6 times in the past 5 years & 2 of them were to Europe. Of course I'm nervous Everytime I board the plane but I know that the chances of things happening are not too great. We know if god forbid anything hsppened, our kids would be taken care of based on our intentions. I think it's completely normal to feel scared boarding a plane without children but I keep in prespective that I get in my car without my kids & fatality rate there is much higher

I am right there with you. I am leaving my kids for the first time in 3 years to head to a bachelorette party in PR (we should all have such troubles!) and I am terrified. I detest flying and am panicking at the thought of leaving my babies. I could take a Xanax but then I can't drink ;) my plan is show up at the airport a lil tipsy lol. So you are not alone. Just take comfort in the statistics. A crazy amount of planes take off and land each day. Just keep thinking of the beach and how much you need a break (I do t know you, but you have kids, so it goes without saying that you need a break!)

We flew to Chicago, I really didn't think about it till last minute, but I love flying. Growing up I knew a family that always split up and flew separate, split kids too.

My parents always took seperate flights when we were little. I hate flying too, but you're right about the car thing. You can't stop living your life bc of it. Enjoy your vacay!

I think it's normal to be worried especially if you are a nervous flyer to begin with. I fly quite frequently once or twice a month and I still get a little nervous during takeoff. But overall just remember it is a VERY safe way to travel comparatively speaking. Statically you have a better chance dying crossing the street. You can't control it so it's not worth worrying about... I'd take a nyquil and sleeping pill or muscle relaxer when they start the boarding process. That should do the trick.
