tongue tie surgery...
my DS is 3 yo. we didnt have it done earlier bc he didnt have a problem eating but now it could be a speech issue since its very pronounced and the tip of his tongue causing it to look heart shaped when he stick it out.
has anyone had this done and so who did you go with and how did it go... so scared of the anesthesia....

Maybe a pediatric ENT? I used to work for one who did them on babies in his office, pretty sure he would do them in the OR for older kids.

tongue tie surgery...
My friend had it done with her twins & they were fine when they came home...like nothing happened.
Just found out now that my almost 3yr old has it too. Advised we dont have to fix because no speech issues. Good Luck to you!!

I sent you an FM also-
We were told by our ped not to do the surgery either.
My DS is now three and has "oral motor weakness" and articulation issues.
His tongue has the heart shape too.
Just had him evaluated for CPSE for speech and I am waiting to see if he gets approved or not.
The lady evaluating him said I should take him to an oral surgeon to see if snipping the tongue was necessary.
I'm not sure what to do. Who decides if it is contributing to the speech issue? The surgeon? The ped? The speech therapist?

My son had this done, I think he was 3ish at the time. ENT Dr. Max April did it. He is almost 16 now, and if you look at his tongue, it still looks tongue tied, although not as severe. I think his frenulum tightened up again over the years, I'm not really sure. He has received speech since he was 2. His articulation is poor.

tongue tie surgery...
I had this done on my 1 week old at a Pediatric ENT. There was no anesthesia, they literally just snipped it with a scissor and it bled maybe 2 drops. She barely cried.
There are also ENT's that will do it with a laser. I don't think there is any need to put them out for this.

My cousin's daughter had this done. She is 2 years old now and had it done when she was under a year. She had no issues when it was done and still no issues. She too was nervous about anesthesia but all went well.

tongue tie surgery...
Dentists that are specially trained can do it with a laser and novcaine. No need for general anesthia for this. Usually it's only done on toddlers if the speech therapists, etc recommend it. Many times they wait to see if the child can learn to speak with it. If not it's done when they are a little older.

DO is 4 and just had it done.
We went to Kidssmiles. Dr. Michele did it out of the Syosset office. She was awesome and he was totally fine afterwards. A little sore . In a couple of days back to eating crunchy things again.

With Novocaine the child will be awake, he will only get a local anesthesia, they do not have to use IV sedation.
Some doctors use laser now too and with the laser the child doesn't need anything other that a numbing gel.
