Tell me about your RE Office

I've been going to Cornell and seeing Dr. Chung since January. I took a break for a few months due to some house and job issues that I needed to take care of. I've done the HCG shot but never an IUI. I want to try an IUI soon and this would be a non-medicated IUI. After a few IUIs with Cornell, I may move to another RE office. We are dealing with slight MFI.

I like Dr. Chung a lot but I hate how Cornell is organized like a factory (sign in, see the doctor who orders the HCG shot, then go to the cashier and pay, then wait in another office for the HCG shot, etc).

Any thoughts on a smaller RE office that is a little more personal?

I go to RSoNY in Mineola. It's another factory feel place. You sign in and wait in a large waiting room. Sometime between 5 and 90 minutes later, they call your name and you go into a smaller waiting room. Then they call your name again and you speak with a nurse, who sends you for blood and/or sono. Then it's back to the smaller waiting room to be called to see the NP or the RE.

Now that I've been going there for many months, the nurses and sono techs seem to remember my face (but not my story). My RE does not remember me and actually stood up, shook my hand, and introduced herself to me the 10th time I saw her (after having seen her the previous week). So… I'm not saying they're not good at what they do, but it's not a "personal" place if that's what you're looking for.

I go to LIIVF. I've never gone anywhere else, so I don't have a point of comparison, but I like it there. It is a really large practice that has multiple doctors and multiple locations, but I don't get the "factory feel" from them. Most of the nurses remember me and know me by name. When you go there, you sign in and wait in a large waiting room to be called in. To my knowledge, there are no other small waiting rooms once you get inside. When I go for AM monitoring, they call me and I get my blood drawn first and then sono right after. The only time I have had to go back to the waiting room was if there were no sonogram rooms open (they have 4 rooms), and I've never waited for more than 10-15 minutes to get called back in. I don't see my actual doctor a ton -- I deal mostly with the nurses and physician's assistants, all who are very nice. I've only met my doctor twice -- once for the initial consult and once after 4 IUI's that resulted in BFN's so we met to change protocol. We decided to move to IVF, and each IVF patient is assigned a specific nurse who is your point of contact. She ordered all my meds, scheduled my appointments, drew out my calender, etc. I talk to her fairly regularly and like her a lot. I've heard some people have been unhappy with their IVF nurse, so I guess its hit or miss who you get assigned to -- you might be able to request, but I'm not sure. Overall, I'm happy there and feel that they are doing all they can to get me pregnant.

I went to Columbia and I guess you could call it factory like but I found it just organized. I never waited long and the drs were never rushing you or ignoring your feelings. They have a group approach. They meet and go over cases so even though you have a main dr you get the knowledge of all.

I see Dr Zapantis and he is so personal and caring. he does everything himself even draws the blood and always returns my calls and answers all my questions he even met with my husband on a Saturday to answer all his questions.

I go to North Shore. A lot of people complain about it, but I love it. The Nurses are wonderful and attentive and friendly. Both the nurses and doctors explain things to you in detail, they help you, one of them even walked me through giving myself a shot once, just in case the time came when someone couldn't do it for me. After each IVF they were great, constantly checking on me. As typical for a IVF I've seen a lot of the doctors there and only two I don't love seeing.

Everyone is recommending RMA nowadays. Talk to people here who have gone. I've heard nothing but good things.

I just switched from RMA (NYC) to SIRM (NYC) and couldn't be happier.

RMA was like a factory. At least 30 people waiting for monitoring appointments - it was - take pants off, sono, put pants on, checkout.

SIRM has been so much easier. Scheduled monitoring without a room full of people waiting. My doctor now explains what he's seeing, what he wants to test for, and how we will move forward oh and they communicate by e-mail which has been AMAZING.

I left RMA for this reason and wound up at SIRM. Loved the 1:1 attention.

I am a former patient of RS of NY now with RMA. I love RMA. The NYC office is busy but that's their main office. I mostly go to Garden City for monitoring and I've never been in waiting room with more that 2 women. On weekends I have to travel to the city and it's busier but I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to be checked and I'm always checked by a doctor. That's not the case with RS of NY for daily monitoring.
RMA also communicates through email which I love! RS of NY did not provide that. Any question or concern I email my dr or his nurse and one of them gets back to me very quickly.
Everyone has their opinion on a dr. Or practice based on their experiences. You have to research and go with what you think is best for you. Good luck!!!
