If Hamas puts down their weapons there will be peace. If Israel puts down her weapons, there will be no Israel.

By far the best quote I have ever read about the entire history of the Israeli people.

It is a great quote from Netanyahu.
Another great quote is from Golda Meir: peace will come when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us.

This is the one I was referencing in my original response on this thread.

And sadly, the majority of the world isn't aware of the true nature of the conflict.

We can discuss this civilly. What is going on etc.

I may not be a fan of how the OP worded the title, but I can educate through fact. Maybe show ONE person what is going on as opposed to what they THINK is going on.

I think this is an absolute perfect response. So maybe the op didn't word it correctly but I for one don't rally know more than a tiny bit about what is going on and if I can be educated more about the situation I would think people would be open to having a topic like this one here.

Re: Still support Israel?

For anyone with a few minutes to spare who wants to know more, this is the Hamas charter. Just search for the words Israel or Jew to see what Israel is up against.

It is the self-proclaimed, PUBLIC mission of Hamas to obliterate the entire country of Israel and all the Jews. To "drive them into the sea."

And Israel is asked to show restraint against these terrorists.

Re: Still support Israel?

I'm very curious about the topic as well.

I don't have a connection to either place, so my immediate response is to think why can't people just get along?

I don't really know all of the history so it's interesting to me and helpful to become more educated from people who do.

I didn't know about the leaflets so I learned something today!

There are less sensitive topics that have been monitored on here before, I am sure.

I also agree that this thread can be taken very negatively and I'm not even Jewish.

It's sad that you have to be on your guard so much around here but it's overly apparent what topics typically turn into drama.

I truly hope he is not generalizing all Arabs in the region and that he means to say "terrorists". That sounds as racist as the anti-semitism people hear.

Sadly I don't know a lot about the topic except that there is a long history, it is very sensitive topic, and that innocent people are dying. I also think no matter what the issue it almost always takes 2. I also know the media is not fair it's not even worth watching the news on this.

Golda Meir is a woman and that quote is decades old. And she was referencing the particular group with which Israel was fighting at the time.

I'm trying to participate but I am sick to my stomach from many of these responses. For those of you who would like to know more about the history of the conflict and what is currently happening right now, please do your own research. It is a complicated issue. Don't ask Anyone here. Most of their information is from biased sources. There is a lot of prejudice on these boards. please know that not all arabs are terrorists and not all jews are zionists.

I would rather spend my time with my children and thanking God that my parents had the luck to come to America and I don't have to go to sleep tonight with the fear that my children will be bombed to pieces while playing ball outside.

I'm sorry I even started this topic...I didn't find what I was looking for

Re: Still support Israel?

I have many friends who are Israeli that I know and love... I even have a very close friend living in Tel Aviv.

With that being said, I do not agree with what is going on in Gaza. To call it a massacre is putting it lightly. I respect everyone's opinion here and I do pray that your families are safe during this horrible time.

I have many European friends and family and their views are overwhelmingly Pro-Palestine.

I feel that the battle will never be over until Israel gives back at least part of Palestine to the Palestinian people, and provides equal rights to their citizens. Hamas certainly needs a better strategy to obtain this, I hope a cease fire happens soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do think this is a topic where the people closely related see it as a black and white issue, where as any other person will see shades of gray.

I believe you can support something while still recognizing or acknowledging that things are being done that you don't agree with (I.e. the kids killed playing on the beach that the OP referenced) but with this issue there are so many emotions tied to it that it is almost too difficult to discuss with people closely related to the subject (and that goes for both sides)

Re: Still support Israel?

I also encourage anyone to do their own research. But facts get skewed in the media so often.

There are indisputable facts in this situation.

It is a fact that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire, and Hamas has not.

It is a fact that land HAS been given back, with the agreement that rocket fire would cease, which it did not.

It is a fact that leaflets and warnings are sent to Gazan civilians by Israel, with evacuation instructions prior to military action.

It is a fact that Hamas rockets were found hidden underneath a school run by the UN in Gaza.

It is a fact that the Hamas charter calls for the annihilation of Jews and the destruction of the entire country of Israel.

So, please, tell me: how should Israel handle this situation?

. I'm not being sarcastic but genuinely asking : how exactly should Israel respond to being hit with rockets daily ?

I'm sorry, but saying "Hamas needs a better strategy" legitimizes a terrorist organization. It is equivalent to saying Al Quaeda needed a better strategy than 9/11.

Inside of a UN-run school IN GAZA. Hamas rockets. IN A SCHOOL.

Just to clarify for anyone who isn't up to date on the situation.
