Miralax?

Anyone give this to their toddler? (3-4 years old)
Does it help?
DD is always so constipated. When she goes it's always hard.
Sometimes she gets so backed up that she can't go or just goes a pebble or 2 and cries that it hurts.
I tried more fluid, reducing dairy, prunes, pears, fiber gummies daily etc.
Nothing seems to help.
Her well visit is next month and I will ask the ped then but in the meantime I was curious if anyone had any succes with Miralax and if so if their LO had to have it every day, or just once in a while etc.

Re: Miralax?

Yes. DS is 2 yrs old (he will be 3 next month) and has been on it since the winter. Same reason you are thinking about it. He has very hard BM's sometimes where he was crying. I also add fiber into his diet along with prunes, pear juice, etc. Wasn't working. Miralax helped a lot. I gave about 1 tsp full (heaping) each morning in his sippy cup. Made it much more comfy for him to go... LOL

He seems to be doing better so now I put it in his cup about 2 or 3 times a week. We also now drink organic almond milk and he has a lot of fruit with his breakfast.

Ask your Ped if you're concerned, but it definitely helps and I know other moms who have to use it as well for their toddler.

Re: Miralax?

I use Miralax for both of my DC (DS is 7, DD just turned 4). They've both had trouble with constipation since they were newborns. Like you, I've tried prune juice, fiber gummies, increasing fiber and water in their diets, but nothing really worked. The Miralax does work...it helps them go and helps keep it soft, so it doesn't hurt as much. My ped recommended it, and said it's safe to take every day, since it's not absorbed into the body. I was using it daily when they both started taking it, but we now do every other day or every third day (I give them a half a cap full). Every once in a while I forget and skip a day or two, and they go right back to being blocked up. It's the only thing that has really helped them so far.

this exactly

my dd was on it for TWO years. I didn't want to do it but had to. I was worried about her becoming dependent but never happened. it's wonderful. Not too lose, just softens it. Takes a few days to really see the effects. We don't use it anymore! Stopped over 2 years ago now.

Re: Miralax?

Thanks Ladies. I think I want to try it.
It's been so hard for her to go that she fears the potty now and tells me going poopy on the potty hurts.
Ugh, poor kid!

Miralax?

I used it on my 3 yr old a couple of months ago. He was completely potty trained but refused to poop....at all. He was on day #7 of not pooping so I started him on the Miralax. The next day it started working for him and he finally went. Once he saw that it was ok to go on the potty I stopped it. I know of other people who use it on a regular basis without any issues.

start with half a capful in juice, has no taste though. don't expect to see any change for about 2-3 days. Not a laxative!

:) it WILL help

Miralax?

Miralax was a miracle worker for my daughter. She is almost 3. My pediatrician actually recommended it to me. I now buy the big ones in costco. I give it to her as soon as I see the pebbles in her poops. Good luck!

Re: Miralax?

My dd has been the same way since she turned 1, little tiny poopy balls..as she calls them. I feel bad because she always tells me her tummy hurts, she strains to go, has even had a fissure because of it. We have done enemas, Miralax..its so sad and i have brought it up several time to her doctor and they always asks if she eats enough fiber, fruits and veggies and she does..she eats tome of it and only drinks water and Silk milk in the morning and sometime night,

My son (2) has been having the same issue for months. Tried a bunch of different diet changes but nothing really helped. Last week started giving him 1 Activia yogurt a day and he has been going normal everyday with no pain! Hope it keeps up!

Re: Miralax?

Yes it helps!!! The girl I babysit took it for a couple of years bc of bad constipation... So between that and trying to up her daily water intake, she did well on it. It had to be given everyday though. No side effects long term... Eventually weaned her off and she was fine
