There really isn't much you can't eat.. my doctor said no soft cheeses, deli meat and not too much seafood..
Also only 1 cup of caffeine per day.. but a lot of people are very relaxed on this..
I ate soft cheese the entire time.. and had coffee every day..
also only tylenol for pain relief

No alcohol, but you probably want even want to touch it, I'd say just go with what you are craving/wanting. Just like the PP said.

I would do some research of your own (americanpregnancy.org, babycenter.com, etc). Everyone has different answers and comfort levels.

Personally, I like to avoid or really limit caffeine in the first trimester, after that I do one cup a day. Certain seafoods high in mercury should be avoided or limited, undercooked meats, meat pates. Unpasturized cheeses soft cheeses (brie, feta, blue, etc), cold cuts (unless heated to steaming) should be avoided.

Definitely start a prenatal vitamin and DHA if you haven't started already. Good luck, hope you have any easy first trimester!

I ate pretty much everything in moderation including cold cuts, sushi, and caffeine.

Re: another question

I think that it's important to differentiate between the different reasons why certain foods should be avoided. Foods like soft cheeses and deli meats are on the "avoid" list because of the risk of foodborne illness, such as listeria. That is why it is "ok" to eat them if they are heated to steaming.

Other foods, such a tuna fish, are on the moderation list because they are high in mercury and you shouldn't consume too much.

Obviously everyone makes their own choices at the end of the day, but just understand that not everything falls under the "moderation" rule.

I agree with following your own comfort level. The only thing I dont touch is raw fish, everything else I have in moderation.

FYI - listeria is found in much more than deli meats and soft cheeses. You can get it from salad, fruit, and many other foods.

I personally was comfortable eating cold cuts and other "risky" foods. Some are not. To each their own.

To clarify: when people say, "soft cheese," it's very misleading. Cheese is perfectly fine as long as it's made from pasteurized milk.

As for cold cuts: any danger is eliminated if you heat it in the microwave right before you eat it.

The most recent listeria cases have been attached to contaminated produce.

Yes, and I'd say 99% of cheese in the US is pasteurized, I vaguely remember reading that there was a law in place that you can't import or make unpasteurized cheese in the US... could be TOTALLY wrong, but most cheeses are pasteurized, even at specialty cheese shops.
