I am loving the name tristian if we have a boy. But how do you pronounce it?

IMO Tristan = Kristen
Tristian = Christian ( which is what I would like)

Re: Tristian

For some reason I am reading that spelling like Tris-te ahn instead of Tristan.

I'm pronouncing it phonetically (like Tris-tee-en).

I've never seen this and actually thought you misspelled Tristan.

ETA: I looked it up. It appears to be a made up name that first appeared in 1995. I guess that's why there is no definitive pronunciation.

Really? Interesting. I could see why people would pronounce it with the three syllables. Do you think the other way Tristan= Kristen is too girly sounding though? I want. It to be pronounced like Christian but with a T. I guess that's why I put the other spelling. I like that spelling too. Am I making a big deal over nothing? Lol

But you do hear the difference in prouncation right?

Tristian

I was going to name my baby Tristen if it was a girl. In my opinion it is a very feminine boy name. If you do use it I would 100% spell it Ttistan

Re: Tristian

It looks like Tristan misspelled. I also think Tristan is a feminine sounding boy name to me.

What about Christian? That's a nice name.

My husbands name is Tristan. He is named after the opera Tristan and Isolde. He loves his name but hates that people often mispronounce is as Kristen and Christian. Otherwise he loves it. It's actually a very old name. I've never met a female Tristan but I know it can be unisex. I happen to like it a lot.

I couldn't seem to wrap my head around how to pronounce it. Christian as I pronounce it sounds like Chris-chin. This to me, would be pronounced Tris-chin but it took me a long time to figure it out! I kept sounding it out as Tris-tee-an.

Same here! And I think that may be a common occurrence with the name.

When you explain it as Tristian = Christian I can hear the difference in pronunciation...just know that he may have to make that clarification often when he is asked his name Chat Icon

Its funny, because it sounds one way in my head, but when I say it out loud, it sounded like Kristen. But yes I would want it pronounced Trist- chin.

I really think you should think about this long and hard, you are going to be correcting people constantly, and then he is going to be correcting people as well - and there's a good chance they still won't understand what pronunciation you are going for Chat Icon

Tristian

I personally think it's a very feminine name. BUT it's completely up to you. I'm using a male name for my daughter bc it's what we like and what we decided. It's hard and frustrating to get other people's opinions.

My middle name is Trista, my parents loved Tristen for a boy, but when I was a girl they went with Trista for a middle name.

This is where the name came from in my mind. Therefore, I see it as a strong, romance novel type of name. My original question was how do people normally pronounce it. I thought if it was spelled tristian people would say it Tris-chin. If it was Tristan people would say it like Kristen. So no I was never looking for the three syllable version. The name was always Tristan. After seeing the responses, I could see how adding the extra i adds another syllable. that's not what I want.
