inexpensive 2nd bday
Is there such a thing?! I look at these kiddie places and am kinda shocked at the prices. Then i cant even bring an outside cake. Some places dont provide food for adults so thats an extra charge.
Im thinking about doing it at my house. I have a big backyard... what kind of activities can i provide the kids? All ideas welcome.
Also any other ideas of places to have a party. Im open to out of the box ideas just not looking to spend a lot. But have a lot of family and friends.

I couldn't find anything within budget & I felt a big party at the house was fun but a lot of work & still expensive (we did that for her first bday.)
For her second we just had a birthday brunch playdate.
Not really an actual party but it was fun, laid back & everyone had a good time.
I just bought bagels, made a fruit salad, veggie platter, fun snacks for the kids & got a nice cake.
I heard the rec center in Rockville Center is pretty reasonable but I've never been to a party there.

Why not just have family over for pizza and cake if you don't want to spend a lot.
Big birthdays are not necessary IMO.

We just had a family bbq for birthday 2 - might do the same for 3. Will def have a "real" party at 4.

We did my son's 2nd birthday at home because I love to plan all the details. We did a radiator springs themed party so outside we had tires set up with bean bag tosses, I get little wooden cars from Oriental trading that they painted, and we put all his ride on toys outside, and set up his sandbox with construction vehicles. The kids just played with eachother and they toys the whole time, while the adults socialized. While it's more work before hand, a home party is more relaxed to me because people actually get to talk and there are no time constraints.
Saying that, his birthday is mid October, so the stress of worrying about the weather is killing me and we may do a place next year.
ETA: It was just as expensive as a place, but allowed me to do more DIY stuff I like, and to have more kids, I think he had 15, and that was before he started school.

IMO, for a second birthday, a big party is a waste. Kid still has no real concept.
We did immediate family at our house. Hubby cooked.

We have had DDs bday in our backyard for the passed 2 years. We always rent a bouncy house and that's it! Works every year. We get a cheap ( but delicious) cake from Costco and ask mil, my mom and sil if they wouldn't mind making a tray of food. And we order a tray or 2 from someplace reasonable. Only problem is you have to worry about the weather.
Eta: I make my own chocolate lollipops too instead of making goody bags. I also get cake pops in the theme of the party.

For dds 2nd party I took her and 3 nieces and nephews to build a bear. They chose a bear, an outfit, and some accessories. Then we had cake back at my sisters. It was fun and cute.

Thank you all for the suggestions. We have such a large family and everyone has kids that even just having family over for pizza and cake turns into 35 people/kids... NO JOKE Its crazy LOL

Come. Lol. It's nuts. And they all come each and every time lol it that I mind but it's a lot in my house lol

We also just did pizza/cake for close friends/family. But you could also do the little petting zoo's that come to your house, or the outdoor movie party depending on the rime of year. You could do a craft party & order a bunch of stuff from oriental trading. Or a make your own sundae party!

a park or zoo?
im trying to start planning dd's second birthday too. i dont want it to be as big as her first but there are not many people i can count out... and i want it to be fun for her without too much work for me. having it at our house would just be crazy i feel like.
im so stressed out about this too! im thinking of already have 2 smaller parties rather than 1 large one.

I agree with this statement! Why the kiddie places and huge parties for age 2. I have heard and believe it ...when they get older and go to elementary school is when you might start doing those things ... and don't forget the parties and gifts you will need to buy when your child gets invited to them! Save your money !

The Nunleys Carosel is not that bad.
$400. for 25 children.
When we did at home we hired a clown for 1hour @ $150. and then just played in yard. We also ordered like 10 pizzas. We might as well of had it at a place...

I am in same boat as you as far as October. My twins birthday is Oct 28. They will be 3yrs old. We have done the first week of October because of weather & also many halloween partys. (2013 got lucky & it was 80 out the day of party) If we don't have at a place next year, we again will have first week of october.
