Long weekend in Boston.....

Has anyone been to Boston? We want to go for a long weekend but I don't even know where to start with planning. How do we get there..drive, ferry? Where should we stay (location)? What are the must sees? When would be a good time to go?Thank you :)

Re: Long weekend in Boston.....

We went to Boston for a long weekend last year in March and loved it! Previous to this, I went to Boston every summer growing up.

We didn't stay at a hotel, so I can't offer help in that area as we stayed with family that lives in the area.

We drove into Boston and found parking at the museums, which wasn't an issue at all. You can also take the train - we've done that on previous trips.

On our most recent trip, we took the orient point ferry across and we got to our destination within 2 hours of the ferry landing. Made for a much easier trip as we didn't want to deal with NYC traffic or I-95.

If you are a AAA member, get the AAA book for Boston, MA....it may also give you discounts at some of the tourist areas.

Must Sees:
1. Museum of Science - you could get lost there is so much to see and do. We did this last year and did the butterfly exhibit and my daughter loved it as they are flying all around you and landing on your hands and head. Plus, it gave a beautiful view of Charles River.

2. Duck Tour (or Trolley)....did this previously with friends and family and it is so much fun!! Its a land and water tour of Boston - Duck tour only.

3. Freedom Trail - Take the walking tour of Boston to see all the historic sites from around the time of the revolution.

4. Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market - it's a very commercial area, but I love it nonetheless.

5. NE Aquarium - it was undergoing major renovation last year and the reason we didn't go with DD, so check to see if it's finished. This is near Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market.

6. Boston Common park

7. John Hancock Tower - it gives you 360 degree views of the city and water. Beautiful!

There are many more to see and do, but this is what stands out to me.

We went for a day this past November. I really enjoyed it. We stayed near the Quincy Market/Aquarium area. We went to the NE Aquarium, Quincy Market, walked over to the North End/Little Italy area (someone on here suggested getting cannoli's at Mike's Pastry and they were the best I've ever tasted!). Paul Revere's house was also in this area. We also went on a brewery tour at Sam Adams. Have fun!

Re: Long weekend in Boston.....

My favorite hotels are Copley Square marriott (sans kids) or Long wharf Marriott (with kids).
