Buying stuff - how the heck is it possible? Way too complicated
Our baby is due in June, but we wanted to start preparing so we went to Babies R Us over the weekend and started looking around.
How can anyone buy anything?
There is WAY too much stuff.
How the heck do you choose something?
We didn't even know where to start
We looked at strollers and there's like 100 of them.
I thought it was going to be a choice of like 5 strollers.
Then I looked at the baby bouncing thing, I thought it was going to be a choice of "On the floor vs Hanging in the doorway"
But there were like 15 of them!!
Then I thought, ok...maybe choosing a diaper bag would be easier...but there were like 12 shelves of them! (they were small shelves at least)
Its crazy!
We spent 90 minutes there and then left...without any idea of what to buy.

I didn't even walk into BRU until I knew pretty much which stroller, car seat, etc. I knew I wanted.

I second getting the baby bargains book. I don't know if you made up your mind but I found registering at BBB to be far less stressful than registering at BRU. You can request to have someone walk around the store with you to help you register. Do you know anyone that had a baby recently or is currently pregnant? You can check out their registries too. There's a ton of stuff that you think you might need that you really don't need. I'm sure girls on here would be happy to share their registry info with you to help you out.

Will check out the baby bargains book.
As for recommendations from friends...the only person we know (personally) who has kids had them 5 years ago.
Will look into BBB and having someone walk us around and explain things to us.

Baby bargains is a good but if you have friends or family with young kids ask them for their recommendations on what they like and what they felt was a waste. Other Mom's are a great place to start!

I agree--going into the store is like landing on mars. Wayyyy too many choices. The baby bargains book was super helpful and then I did a lot of looking online at different products. I also asked some friends what brands, style, things they liked..
THEN I went to the store and saw things in person to make sure I liked the color, style etc.. THEN came home and added more things online to my registry. I think I went to BRU and BBB 4 times lol

I didn't read a single thing nor did I have the slightest clue of what I was doing.
I went without my husband, I took my mom (for the experience), my friend that had a 4 month old (so she was up to par on everything), and my other friend that has twins (b/c that's what I'm having.)
I gave the two friends guns and with the help of the registry consultant (Buy Buy Baby) we were in/out within 45 minutes.
It was just entirely too overwhelming if you're a first time mom (like I am) and I don't have the time to read the baby bargain books or blogs -- and I have a sense that they push certain products any way.

I felt totally overwhelmed walking into bru for the first time.. I felt even more stressed when I asked my friends with young children bc the 2 of them had a completely different opinion on every single thing.. like down to the type of tub to get and I was just asking more about strollers and stuff!
I looked up things online at the bru website.. checked other parents reviews.. not just on a star rating bc I realized a lot of people would give something a bad review bc the color or they had unrealistic expectations of a product.. so after I researched I went to the store and had it narrowed down .. and then I registered in 2 different trips.. bc it's still overwhelming !

and remember you don't have to do everything all at once. you have plenty of time to make a few trips and add stuff or change things online. the first time I went I just looked to see what things looked like in person.

I also used the baby bargains book along with recommendations from friends. I did not try to do everything at once. I started with the big stuff that I knew we needed like the car seat and stroller. I gave myself lots of time because I found all the different products overwhelming.

I would say the most valuable information I got were from moms who know what to get and what not to get. If you do know any parents that can help you that would be great! When I was pregnant with my DS I got a ton of information from my sister who had BTDT.

I used to work at a daycare and I babysat a lot so I just tried to remember what was the best things that were used there and bought those. I did research on the stroller and car seat though.

With a few exceptions and swapping of different brands, I copied my cousin's registry. We have similar lifestyles and opinions on parenting, and I felt comfortable with her products.

This exactly. It's worth it to create a registry just for the completion discount. Our completion discount at BRU was 20% (this even included diapers and wipes!), plus we were able to use a 10% coupon, plus we opened up a credit card and got another 10%!
And I totally hear you...we didn't want anyone to buy anything either, but they all did anyway. People are going to ask where you are registered. Might as well get what you want.
