It's fine as long as it is cooked. Just watch the mercury level in some of it.

Re: sushi

I have been craving sushi this whole pregnancy! I'll have cooked rolls with shrimp tempura or California, or non-fish rolls like sweet potato tempura or avocado & cucumber... but it's just not the same. I really want my spicy crunchy tuna and all the specialty rolls I used to get

Honestly they eat sushi in Japan while pregnant. Do what you feel comfortable with. I believe everything in moderation so I have no problem eating most sushi.

When it comes to sushi it's not about the mercury level, it's more about the bacteria in the raw fish that can travel through the placenta and infect the fetus. Beyond not worth it to me.

Bacteria can be found in a lot of foods that most people eat, pregnant or not.

My Dr has said to eat what I'm comfortable with. If it is sushi..just make sure to get at a place that is busy with a good rep...that way there is constant turnover and they take pride in quality.

I'm not sure where you got your information, but this is not true. The bacteria will affect mom, not baby. Similarly as if someone who's not pregnant, ate bad sushi and got sick. You're just more likely to be affected when you're pregnant because of your compromised immune system.

When it comes to fish cooked or raw, you need to watch mercury because that is proven to affect baby. Tilefish, swordfish, shark, and king makrel are highest in mercury and should be avoided. Most tuna is ok about 6oz/wk. I stayed away from raw tuna.

I don't like sushi but my Dr is ok with it. He said you are more likely to get listeria from eating spinach. I believe you are safe with the cooked options either way, providing it's not too high in mercury.
