Removing Wallpaper
Has anyone done this and is it hard?
We have a small house with a small hallway that the previous owners wallpapered seemingly just before selling. They painted everything else neutral colors, but wallpapered this one small area. It's a tiny pattern and neutral colors so I thought I could love with it...2.5 years later and I CAN'T! It has to go!
Any advice/tips?

It really depends. I've removed wall paper that was a breeze...and some that have been absolute nightmares--actually quit and just put up new sheetrock in one area 
eta: I would get a bucket of warm water and one of those car wash sponges. Totally saturate the paper and let it sit...then go out it with a putty knife/scraper. You can try those sprays that they sell but they're no better than the warm water IMO.

You can rent a steamer from Home Depot or Aboffs. Makes it easy.

My experience exactly, we have taken down a lot of wallpaper. Thicker vinyl like paper zipped right off, thinner paper took forever to peel off bit by bit.

I just removed it from my house last week. We peeled off ghetto paper and then took a large sponge and used hot water and wet the paper that was glued on and it peeled right off in strips. On the parts that were harder to remove we used a scraper.

Exactly this. Our entire kitchen and dining room was at least ten times easier than one little border in our master bedroom. I had the opposite experience of a pp though with paper finish being much easier than the vinyl finish.

I've rented the steamer before...didn't work for the paper that was in our living room or dining room

warm water and fabric softer worked amazing on our bathroom wallpaper. and a scraper!

If the wallpaper is paper (no felt, gloss, etc.) and flat (no relief/pressed pattern) there's no need to remove it.
If, however, the wallpaper was installed with an overlap seam (rather than a butted seam) this will show.

Yes, use the hottest water you can stand, wear gloves, soak the paper with sponge, you can use store brand paper remover, then just peel and scrape, keep washing the glue residue with hot water, until completely clean. I haven't tried fabric softener as mentioned. Sometimes I have to spackle over the walls after I've sanded the walls smooth, to cover imperfections.

They sell this tool that you run over the wall in circles and it makes tiny holes in the paper. That allows the water, paper dissolver or whatever you are using penetrate better.
We bought a spray that we sprayed on after we used the tool, let sit for a while and then scraped off.
It was time consuming for sure, but not overly difficult.
