My ds is 2.5 and he is into:
Any type of sports hockey tball etc
Trains
He has a remote control truck that he loves
Thinking soon he will love a scooter

Pretty much what everyone else already said would be good. These were my son's faves:
Cars & monster trucks (esp. r/c cars)
Arts & craft supplies
Sports toys & balls
Lego/Duplo blocks
Puzzles & games (Don't break the ice, etc)
Scooter (3 wheels)
