Spinoff: Juicing

What is the deal with juicing? Is this your meal? A supplement? Benefits? etc.

I see it is becoming very popular but I don't quite understand it....

I have my juice for breakfast
I guess some people have them as full meal replacements but I need to chew on food too :)

Re: Spinoff: Juicing

I always used them as supplement, not food unless I went on a juice fast.

I get them really gross though - all vegetables like kale and spinach, and a little apple to cut the bitterness!

I have mine for breakfast. I'm not a big bfast eater at all, so thisis better than just coffee, I suppose. I got my husband the nutribullet for fathers day.

I don't own a juicer at the moment but when I get one soon I plan to have it on empty stomach for breakfast. I heard your body absorbs the nutrients better when taken on an empty stomach. But for my husband this wouldn't work as he likes hot breakfast. He would probably have it after work.

I am also curious about this -

What are the benefits to juicing as opposed to eating whole fruits or vegetables (or say, making a smoothie with whole fruits). I read/heard somewhere that juicing = a lot of empty calories/sugar because the juice is nature's way of getting people to eat the entire fruit and veggie, which also contains fiber to keep us full (which liquids generally don't, or for not as long).

Also, is it really expensive? Do you need to use a ton of fresh fruits and veg to extract enough juice to drink?

Please understand that I am not being critical at all with my questions, but I just know it's popular and I am genuinely curious as to why people do it and what is the intended benefit(s).

Re: Spinoff: Juicing

I love vegetables & find that even though I eat them all the time I never have enough. Juicing is a way for me to get more vitamins & nutrients into my body. (DS too!)

Making smoothies doesn't work well for me because my blender doesn't allow a smooth chop of greens. I prefer juicing to a chewy smoothie. I'm sure if I had a Vitamix or BlendTec I'd feel differently, but my wallet isn't ready for the splurge just yet.

Am I losing the fiber? Sure, but I get plenty of fiber throughout the day with the other veggies and food I eat - 25+ grams/day.

The pulp doesn't get tossed in our house - we can use for muffins or put it in our compost to help us grow more healthy veggies in our garden.

While its true juicing gives you the calories without the fiber, there is no way I"d eat the amount of veggies in 1 serving that I'd get in a juice. I've done a juice fast as like a "detox", join the reboot is a great website to learn about it and watch the movie fat sick and nearly dead, thats what drove us to buy a juicer. I was doing it for breakfast, but I recently started up again and use it as an after lunch "snack" to keep away the munchies.

For me, juicing is expensive and I dont have the time to do it. But I want the nutrition. I started drinking shakeology a month ago, and I get all the dense nutrition that I need!
