hair color...thinking of dyeing...help!

my hair is dark brown, curly up to my shoulders curly and a little past straight. I've noticed quite a few grays sprouting up. At first I was totally cool with it...but after noticing like 6 in the same small area I got a little spooked. I haven't dyed my hair in probably about 5-6 years. I am HORRIBLE about keeping up with my hair. I probably go to the salon once a year.

Should I just dye it my natural color...or should i get highlights to somehow camouflage the gray as it comes in. How often do you get your highlights touched up?

ETA: DH says i should get it professionally done...but if i'm dyeing it dark brown i feel silly getting it professionally done.

I do my own. I say get a box (or two if your hair is thick) of dark brown. I color my hair every three weeks (I have a lot of gray). I hem and haw when it's time for me to color but once it's on my head I find something to do for 40 minutes and I'm as good as new.

I buy a box and do my own.

I can't justify the expense or the time for getting it done professionally.

I just buy close to my own hair color.

Only issue I've noticed is that after several weeks, the color can get that orangey tint to it.

If I re-dye it's fine.

Argan Oil is also known as 'Liquid Gold' because of its colour and clarity. This 'Liquid Gold' contains high levels of vitamin E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Not only is it great for the skin, hair and nails but it is also great for your diet!

thank you! that's how I feel...we can't justify the expense of upkeep and now is not the time for me to add more expenses to our pile.

I told DH I could just do it myself since thats what i always used to do and he came out with a stupid comment saying "don't embarrass me, go get it professionally done" um....EW!

I have tons of gray hair. I have an area right in front that is about 2 inches wide that is all gray. (Think, Stacy London) I dye my hair every 5/6 weeks and use a Root dye to the front patch every 1.5 to 2 weeks in between. It is a lot of up keep. I have to do it or I would be totally gray.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Honestly, DH doesn't even notice when I dye mine. I always do it when he's not home.

I wouldn't do highlights or a completely different color from my natural (I'm dark blonde so I wouldn't go to red or black) on my own though.

And all it takes generally is to let him know how much it is to get it done professionally and he STFU. Chat Icon
