2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

DS will be 2 month's next week and he cries all the time - sometimes he'll stop when you hold him, but other times, he cries even if you hold him. We've tried singing, rocking, shushing noises, etc. He'll fall asleep (sometimes) when we put him in the car, but once the car stops, he wakes up and starts crying again. I can't tell you how many times I've changed his diaper, fed him, etc. thinking that might be the problem - nope! We never had this problem with DD and have no idea what's wrong. Any advice? Oh I'm so sorry. This is one of my biggest fears. My friend said for her daughter it was only loud sounds that helped. She stayed in the bathroom in the bouncer while she showered, they used the vacuum, hair dryer was their best friend. They finally got a sound machine and the white noise setting really loud was the only thing that settled her. Hang in there! GL!

I tried the shower, but haven't tried the vacuum or hair dryer. DH is either going to be happy and think I'm cleaning the place or that I'm crazy. Chat Icon

I thought colic too, but I wasn't entirely sure how it's diagnosed - and even if he has it, there isn't anything that "fixes" it.

He hates swaddling and cries even more when we try it. I'm starting to feel like an awful parent by thinking DD was SO much easier than DS. Chat Icon

Gas?

I wondered about that - but how do you know if it's gas? I've tried doing the "bicycle" exercise, but that didn't seem to do anything. I also tried giving him gripe water once or twice, but wasn't sure if that helped or not.

Chat Icon sorry you're going through this, it is really hard!
DD was like that. She had reflux & a touch of colic (that's what the ped said.)
There really wasn't much that would help but it didn't last long so there is hope.
I felt like 2 & 3 months were the worst but then she started growing out of it.
Now she's the happiest little thingChat Icon
During that time I was so worried that she was always going to be a miserable kid but she is the complete opposite.
Just try to remember that it is a quick phase (it just seems like forever) but it really will get better.

What about the swing? DD being swaddled in her swing was a life saver at that age.

Re: 2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

Ugh... poor you! My DD#2 had colic for 6 months and it was terrible. I tried everything-- changed my diet to eliminate everything at different times, white noise, movement, brought her to many different doctors, etc... It just eventually went away on its own. What I have read since then is that often babies who have a traumatic birth -- long labor, esp with Pitocin, can get pinched nerves in their necks that can cause gastrointestinal issues. I don't know if this is a fact, but it is an interesting theory. The article talked about how many people found salvation by bringing their babies to a pediatric chiropractor who gave them an adjustment and the problem was solved... Again- no idea if this actually works because I read about it after my baby was better. I would have tried it if I had read about it back then.

2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

DD had bad gas (still does) and she would cry for hourssssssss! We knew it was gas because she would kick her legs and tense up her body as if she was trying to get it out but couldn't. We would try everything as well....and nothing really helped. She grew out of the excessive crying but still has gas. Now it is more whining and grunting in her sleep as she tries to put it out.

Ugh so sorry but it is nothing you are doing wrong!

Ok are you nursing? If so you can try eliminating dairy. Or speak to your pedabout a possible milk allergy and try switching formulas.

Does he find comfort in nursing? If so keep feeding. I had DD attached to my boob for several hours at night bc it was the only thing that calmed her. Not fun for me and my nips but it was what she wanted.

Also we tried gas drops and colic calm drops. I wish we gave them every night.

It is all trial and error...all I can say is keep trying different things. Good luck!

When DD was difficult to soothe the thing that worked best was upbeat music. She still hates slower lullaby type stuff. Our go-to routine was Call Me Maybe and Party Rock Anthem believe it or not. The first got her attention and soothed her and the second put her to sleep!

Like PP said, try all kinds of things. You never know what will work.

Re: 2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

Both of my twins did this. Swaddling, loud white noise (I down loaded an app on my i pod and had it play through a sound system) and the swing all at the same time is how we got them to sleep. Between 5 and 9 pm there was never anything that helped.
hugs!!! I know how hard this is.

I am sorry you are going through this. I went through this with DS. I feel like I tried everything. The Dr said if it is classic colic, it will stop around 4 months - and that's exactly when it stopped. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for letting me know your DD is a happy kid - I was a little worried about that being his personality too, because there isn't enough to worry about Chat Icon

We tried the swing and also manually swung him around until our arms felt like it was going to fall off, lol.

My delivery was so incredibly short - 3 hours and four pushes - I'm hoping he doesn't have any pinched nerves, but my DH is a chiro and he says he's moving fine.

I was nursing but he was so fussy and i was nursing ALL the time, we ended up switching to formula. He was a little better after and would sleep more, but still very whiny and crying.

2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

That was pretty much my dd for the first few months. We tried so many things, rocking, white noise, nursing more, burping more, has drops, pacifiers, music, movement, warmer, colder, diaper change, bath, etc etc. I even took her to the ped to rule out dairy intolerance. I was at my wits end because she just never seemed content and I basically spent all day and most of the night rocking and nursing her to keep her as calm as possible. But then one day she just grew out of it around 3 or 4 months and since then has been such a happy baby. Hang in there, it will get better!

Re: 2 month old crying all the time - what to do?

My first son was like this! He calmed down little by little each week. By 12 weeks- much better! White noise helped the most.

My second son was easier. I feel badly for parents who have the crankier infant the second or third time around!!!

It won't last- and I am sure his personality will be fine, too. I was worried about that myselfChat Icon

In general, crying peaks in babies around 2 months, so what you're experiencing is pretty normal. Have the drs rule out anything medical, but it should start to decrease as DC gets closer to 3 months old.
