We will be moving shortly and I think this will be a justifiable expense. We eat out a lot right now so I am more than fine with cutting back on our meals out and getting a cleaning lady. Also, with our first baby on the way, I think this will be super important. DH and I have long work hours and commutes and I don't want the stress of cleaning and time away from baby.
For those of you that have cleaning ladies, are you there when she comes? I think I would be paranoid to have someone I don't know in my house when I'm not there.

My nanny cleans every day, and then one day when DH is home, she does a deep clean. Even before the nanny, I had a cleaning lady.. I feel like its a justifiable expense. I'd rather cut cable than my cleaning lady..

When my ILs had a cleaning lady, she would come when they were at work. But she was a family friend so they trusted her.
I don't have that trust in people, so if we were to hire one (which is most likely going to happen) I would have that person come on the day I work from home.

I HAD to get one. My husband and I work full time, we have a dog and it was just too much for me when I was pregnant with my second. When he was born, she was God sent. I don't regret one penny spent on her and I just budget her into my monthly expenses.

FTWM do you have a cleaning person?
Yes. $150 bi weekly. By the time we are home and kids are in bed it's 930/10. Kitchen gets basic cleaning from dinner, toys get picked up and that's al we have time for. Weekends we want to enjoy mostly quality time with the kids. We do laundry and cleaning projects...like cleaning outa closet, etc, but deep cleaning is left to our cleaning lady.

I think this is a great idea and would work for us. Right now, I am home every other Friday so if we go the cleaning lady route, I can definitely have someone come the Fridays I am home.

I finally gave in and got one last year. I just didn't have time between work, picking up DS, getting home at 7 pm every night, cooking, bedtime routine, etc. And the last thing I wanted to do on the weekends was clean. She comes in every 2 weeks. Best money I every spent.
Edited to say we do live in VA so it's $75 every 2 weeks (not sure what the rate is up in NY.)

I wanted one for years but couldn't justify it. Now I am 8 months pregnant with twins and have a 3.5 yr old at home, and I can't do anything besides wiping down the counters practically. A friend of mine rec. hers to me and she charged me $80 to clean my whole house..it was so worth it and I have her coming back again. My DH was against it but when he saw how clean everything was, he was like when's she coming back??

I'm a SAHM, but i still don't seem to have the time to deep clean with two kids all day. So i have someone come once every 3 weeks, she doesn't do the entire house..she just does all the harder things.

We didn't get one until just before DS2 was born. I wish I had gotten one sooner. I hate to clean and work long hours. I want to spend my free time enjoying my kids not cleaning the house. It's nice to have fewer chores to worry about doing on the weekend. It's definitely worth it to me to have a cleaning service. They also get our house cleaner than I could ever get it.

No, Ive thought about it many times. I've had a cleaning service come in 3 times but wasnt that impressed.
I think it would be AWESOME to have, I personally cant justify the expense.
Mainly because I cleaned the entire house on Sunday, last night it was a mess again. I feel like with 2 toddlers what a cleaning lady would do, would be undone in 2-3 days anyway LOL
I actually have been thinking instead of that, I should clean the house myself and then use that money for a babysitter & date night biweekly :)

Yes, comes 1X every 2 weeks. IMO, worth it because I just don't want to spend my entire Sat scrubbing my house top to bottom.

Just curious....for those of you who have one.... are any of you located near the St. James area? I am a FTWM and I am in school as well.... I feel like I can't catch up at times so we tried someone but were not loving her.

Yes, worth every penny. We pay $100 biweekly for a large 5 bedroom house with full basement (playroom). It was $90/week before we finished the basement.

Yep I do. I started her while I was Sahm, now started working FT and absolutely need her. The last thing I want to do is clean. To waste 4+ hours on a weekend is not happening. Now that I'm working I want her 3 times a month. She is 90.00 every other week.
She is booked now 6 days a week so she has no opening for extra days
