Travel systems are for rookies?

DH and I narrowing down some contenders for LO's stroller, and I read online that "travel systems are for rookies."

We're doing our research but just don't know if we want to spend $800-$1000 for a Bugaboo or Uppa. I like the Graco Modes but hate the 2 patterns. I also like the Chicco Cortina, that's my top choice. I also like the Peg Perego Pliko.

What was your criteria? What did/didn't you like about travel systems?

Re: Travel systems are for rookies?

The strollers are generally very heavy and bulky.

Best idea, get a snap and go for the infant seat, and a good stroller for longer walks and later use.

I think the city Mini is a wonderful stroller that doesn't break the bank. Good luck!

Re: Travel systems are for rookies?

I had the Chicco Cortina with my DD. I actually really liked having a travel system. It worked well for me and I didn't find the stroller bulky. However, while I liked the Cortina there were things that REALLY irked me.

When you use the infant seat with the stroller there is literally NO way of accessing the basket underneath which drove me insane when I needed my diaper bag. You had to take out the infant seat and adjust the stroller seat forward in order to reach it. SO annoying.

The actual stroller seat wasn't upright enough in the sitting position and my DD use to go nuts. She was always somewhat reclined when sitting and she hated it. Made it hard for her to reach her snack tray and sippy cup, she always had to lean forward.

Overall, it worked well and held up nicely but it's not perfect.

I just got the Graco Modes Travel System for baby #2, due tomorrow. Chat Icon
So far, in just playing around with it, I LOVE it! And the infant seat itself it so much lighter then the Cortina. It has a HUGE storage basket and I love how easy it is to configure.

We got the Antiquity pattern which is actually REALLY nice in person, way nicer than in the pics. I actually love it. I'm excited to try something new since I wasn't madly in love with my Chicco.

ETA - As an aside.........I would NEVER spend a thousand dollars on a stroller. That's crazy, there is nothing so special about those strollers. There are SO many great strollers out there for a fraction of the cost. On top of that, you're using them with a baby/toddler/kid...............why spend that much money on something that is going to get beat to heck??? Think diaper leaks, puke, bottles, snacks, sippy cups. Save your money........Chicco, Graco, etc all make great strollers and they won't cost a fortune. Just my two cents. Chat Icon

Travel systems are for rookies?

I depends onhow much you think you will use the sroller and where you are going etc.

If you are a city girlt then no travel system. You will want soemthing light.

Biggest con of the systems are weight.

My parents bought one for use in FL. I love it but I hate taking it in and out of the car.

I have a city mini and love it.

I do not like travel systems at all. They are huge. Get a snap and go if you want something for the car seat, they are super cheap and you can even pick one up on craigslist for $10 if you don't want to pay full price. And I love my city mini.

If you like the Graco Modes, then you can do what I did and get the Onyx stroller and then get the carseat you like. I got the tidal wave car seat. It's the one that it's black and aqua. it isn't that much more than getting the travel system and the all black stroller will go with anything!

I also bought the graco modes. I had a citi mini for my ds (almost 3 1/2 years ago) but I absolutely loved that the modes can be used like a snap and go then can be a regular stroller facing either way. I bought the black one and then the click connect 40 car seat (which i also fell in love with bc it can be used until theyre 2 and it has all sorts of great features) in moonstruck which is like a greyish pattern thats really pretty

This is exactly what I registered for. I actually went back and forth until today between the modes and the britax b agile. I still don't know which one is better but unless I own both, I will never know, lol. So I went with the graco since it can be used as a snap and go and also the seat can face either way.

Thanks for the input! It's really helpful. DH is a gear head so I'm letting him take the lead since he notices things about the strollers I never would! If it were up to me I'd just pick the nicest pattern! One friend has an Uppa but for the price to have to buy the infant seat really turns me off. Another has a Bugaboo, another has the Modes. Ultimately I want the right stroller that fits our needs, regardless of the price. I would hate to buy something expensive and end up hating it!

I am registered for the Graco Modes. My BFF is preg with her 2nd and sold her city mini so she could get the click connect (her 1st is out of the stroller by now)

We have the peg pilko and the reason why I like it is b/c it's much lighter than the other systems, the infant seats apps right in, and it folds like an umbrella stroller. Long and skinny. Saves so much room in the car.

I wish I knew about the uppa b/c it turns into a double. I'm now go an spend as much b/c I have to buy a double. They are really nice. Pretty light weight a little bulky fold but doable

Travel systems are for rookies?

I have a snap n go, and the citi mini gt and bought the car seat adapter for this ( this is what I was using the other day). I LOVE my city mini gt....so easy to maneuver , light, super easy to fold, has a nice size basket that can fit a nice amount of grocerys but not much else.

The stroller can hold a child till 60 lbs, reclines all the way back.... The only thing is they face away from you ( unless in car seat adapter)

I have the graco snug ride 30 car seat and love it and gets really really good safety reviews

My friend has the pupa baby vista and if it wasn't so much $$ I would run out now and get it

Re: Travel systems are for rookies?

my stroller is shot, in a few weeks we are going to start looking for a new stroller. I still have my snap and go, which i used all the time for DS. I love the uppa baby stroller but its so much $$$. So im not sure what we are going to get. I still have my Pregg Perego car seats, and they are in great condition so anything i get has to be compatible with those.

I got the Chicco Keyfit travel system when I had my DS. I had no issues whatsoever... The stroller wasn't overly bulky and I still use the stroller with my DS and he is 2yo+.

IMO the Uppa, City Select, Bob are much easier to maneuver and more sturdy. In the long run I think they last. I'd rather buy a high quality stroller for baby one and keep it for the next kid too vs having to buy multiple strollers.

I preferred the travel system to the snap and go.. I too went with the chicco cortina and we still use the stroller. We also have a BOB for running.

Why I liked the travel system:
1-the car seat just seemed more protected than in the snap and go. The car seat has a canopy and so does the stroller and I just felt like DS was not exposed to people and elements when in it.

I also feel like his was higher up and more sturdy than with the snap and go.

2-When he got older, it fully reclined so it was more like a bassinet.

3-Even now, I like the chicco because the canopy can go all the way forward. Seems silly but there were days when it really blocked the wind while walking.External Image

Re: Travel systems are for rookies?

I didn't like the travel system. For us it was so bulky. I'm short so getting in and our of the trunk would have been difficult and it was heavy. I've been happy with the snap and go. We even bring it in restaurants since DD can't sit by herself compltely yet and it doesn't really take up more room than a highchair. For our regular stroller we have the citi mini. You can also get a car seat adapter. It's really about the features you want. I wanted something lighter and folds nicely so the city mini made sense.

Options have changed a bit since I had DS 1 but, I went with simple. I got a snap and go for the beginning and spent more on a lightweight umbrella for later on (Maclaren Quest).

In hindsight, I wish I had gotten a single City Mini instead of the Maclaren but, I do like the Maclaren a lot.
