Good commuter car
Can anyone recommend a good commuter car that is safe (to cart kids when needed), small but big enough to fit 2 car seats and fuel effecient? Looking to buy a car to use to commute to and from the city every day.

My Dh loves his Hyundai Elantra for commuting.
Great on gas and he has an insane amount of mileage on it and its still.going strong
Very reliable

I have a job that many of the staff have to do a lot of field work.
Several of the staff have the Hyundai's mentioned and they seem to be reliable cars, fairly inexpensive and decent on gas.

I just traded in my Hyundai Elantra yesterday...because I wanted a small suv. BUT I loved it...it was good to me. I had 130000 miles and it was 7 years old. I would have totally stayed with Hyundai if when I went to the dealer, they weren't a bunch of jerks :) My mom is on her third hyundai, my husband has an accent, as well as my sister. My first car was an accent too. I have 1 ds, but have taken 2 carseats in the car at one time. If you are tall, 2 rear facing ones are going to be tough, but once DS was in the convertible it was fine!

I have a Prius. I get 53 miles to the gallon and I love it. Up until last week it cost about $34 to fill up. I commute from Centereach to Ozone Park every day and also get to use the HOV lane. I fit 3 carseats across and the trunk has tons of space.

I have a used Acura TL and its great on gas and has lasted me a very long time commuting.

Nissan Versa - my dh drives to the city every day and only fills it up once a week. it has great power and very roomy.

I used to have a Honda Civic which was VERY fuel efficient and lasted what felt like forever. When I sold it it had over 140k miles on it and was in great condition.

Good commuter car
I had a Hyundai Elantra for 12 years until it finally kicked the bucket (totally my own fault, I let the timing belt go for too long). I went with Kia bc they are essentially the same as Hyundai but slightly less expensive.
