If a child had a 103 fever the day before, would you let them in your home?

We are hosting a dinner playdate in our home tomorrow night with 3 other families. One mom emailed me saying that her daughter had a 103 fever yesterday.

Should I tell her to stay home?

If it were just my family, I would probably tell her to still come as long as she is fever free all day tomorrow. I feel I should tell her to stay home since we will have 2 other families at our house.

I wouldn't allow them over, but that's just me. Did she say what she was sick with? Ex: a cold, stomach virus, ear infection, etc

I personally would, but I'm an admitted germaphobe.

I wouldn't say anything if the child was fever-free for 24 hours before coming to your house. Not sure why the mom bothered to let you know but you could say something like oh, if you need to back out bc DC is sick I understand, or something like that in case that's what she was hinting at.

But if not I would probably say something. I am not crazy about germs but 103 is kind of high and probably indicating something viral.

I wouldn't bc most likely if they were 103 yesterday it isn't likely that they would be fever free without meds for 24 hours.

yes I would let them in the house providing you trust this Mom to be responsible about it. I wouldn't if I thought it was someone to just give him meds and take him over.

i agree with a previous poster...if this kid had 103 the day before, there is no way she all of a sudden became fever free the next day. This winter has been brutal in terms of all the illnesses going around and even if you were okay with it, you still have two other families' children who you could potentially be exposing germs to. i say better play it safe than sorry. i've cancelled MANY plans this winter because my kids have been sick and i didn't want to risk other children catching whatever they may have had.

No, I would politely ask that they do not attend the dinner playdate. 103 is high and most likely the child will not be fever free in 24 hours.

The mom emailed me today saying she will not be coming. Her DD has a 104 fever today.

I hope she is ok.

I agree with this. I don't know of any kids who had a 103 fever for no reason and are fine less than 2 days later.

It's one thing if it were just your own kids, and you making the judgment call, but you say you are hosting several families, so I'd tell her that it's probably not a good idea.

ETA: Sorry to hear the update but good that you didn't have to make the call

Huh, well my son was spiking a fever up and down from normal to the peak of 102, and the next day he was fine. I think it was teething, though he never had a huge fever with teething before, but I hear these 2 year molars are not so good. I think it would depend on what the kid has. I do hope that this child feels better soon Chat Icon
