Anyone's DC have a gross motor delay/very late walker

DD was 18 months on the 19th and still not walking consistently. She will take some steps if you stand her up and tell her to but will not walk on her own. She gives up a few steps in and crawls (master crawler). She can get anywhere she wants crawling

She flies while cruising/using push toys and can play with toys standing up.

She gets PT 2x a week through early intervention and has been to many drs (no physical issues)

Anyone else have a very late walker? When did they walk consistently on their own?

DS did not start walking until mid 18th month. I continually asked my ped if this was a problem. But I was continually assured he was fine because he would pull himself and put weight on his legs. Now over two years later I wish I pushed more. No one can tell me for sure but I am now dealing with gross and fine motor skill issues all related to low muscle tone in the core of his body. He is getting speech and OT services but didn't not qualify for PT. I disagree completely. My son's issues are his endurance not the actual procedure. I enrolled him in Karate and soccer so he can continue to build strength.

To answer you question DS literally starting walking in mid 18th month on his own. He never wobbled. If I could go back I wish I pushed more to get the muscle tone developed at a younger age. My son is a very sedentary kid. It could just be his personality. Good Luck.

DD has low tone. Her therapist does strengthening exercises with her every session. She's definitely improving...at a year old she wouldn't even bear weight on her legs. Her main area of weakness is in her core. Did your son W sit? I've been told this is a sign of weakness...I'm constantly fixing her legs lol

Hi there, I have twin boys who are now 14 months.
My one twin had/has low tone in trunk; high tone in legs; He finally learned to sit by himself at 11 months & at same time now is starting to crawl & walk with assistance. We are in E/I with P/T 3x week & O/T 2x week. He also does the W sit but with both of these therapist working on him, this is why he has come so far. We also just got orthotics. Our orthopedist was against it but since the P/T was so strongly for it... we went that route. I suggest looking it this as well. If you have any questions, ples send me email

Thanks for the replies. She just had a check up with the physiologist who was against orthotics/splints at this point. She suggested getting DD higher shoes w/ ankle support.... Poor DD with the horrible boot type sneakers lol

Ds didn't walk alone until 19 months. He was just happy crawling everywhere.
He had short ankle braces, because his PT was pushing for it, but I do not feel that they helped him at all. We stopped using them after two months or so, he outgrew them very quickly.
Is your ped concern?
