Pacifier
DS 51/2 months old. Uses pacifier to nap and go to sleep, has fallen asleep with out regulary. Some days for naps/sleep he wants it more. Doesnt cry for it though but i can tell by his mouth he is looking for it.
I want to take it away but i do not know how. I feel bad bc i know it soothes him but i also dont want to go to long with it bc i think it will be harder to break the habit.
Please give me suggestions.

5.5 months is still little. Don't stress over the pacifier yet! IMO, if it helps him sleep, and he only uses it to sleep, then just keep using it.
My DD is 15 months and still uses a pacifier at naptime. Only once/twice a day, in the crib, at nap times (not bedtime). It helps her fall asleep fast when it's light outside. I'm sure it'll be a tough few days when we take it away from her (eventually....) but to me, over a year of good naps is worth that tough few days down the road!

I agree with PP. My DD only used the pacifier for naps and bedtime at home. Her naps at daycare she didn't have one so I knew she wasn't dependent on it.
I took it away at 17 months and she didn't even realize it.

If he doesn't really need it or look for it - I would take away. As they get older he will start to look for it and it will only get worse.
If he really needs it I would hold on to it but if he is boarder line make the decision easier for yourself and hide it away.

I think every child is different, in my opinion I would take it away now. My 17 month old was the same way.. I felt bad taking it away, now I don't know how to take it away b/c he has gotten so use to it. Again every baby is different, My sister in law took her sons paci @ 18 months within a week, now with her 2nd son who is almost 2 years old, she is having a harder time taking it away.

if its only naps and sleep - then thats really good... and they are still little I wouldn't sweat it... its not like they are walking around with it all day.

Agreed. My  are 13 months and we just took them away. One of them only used it for naps and bedtime and didn't even always look for it, no issues. My other one walks around with his mostly. He is ok during the day now without it buy boy are nights getting difficult with him. I wish I didn't let him have it during the day. It's only the 3rd day so we are all still adjusting. I was never in a super rush to take it away until at least a year cause I was so paranoid about SIDS.
We have another baby due in a few months and I wanted them gone and the boys adjusted to it since I plan on giving the baby a paci too.

My DD was 6 months old and only used it for naps when I took it away cold turkey . It took 2 days of fussiness before she was fine without it. I would do it sooner than later since its much easier on both you and LO.
