Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

Hey ladies. Anyone else trying to VBAC with this pregnancy? I am actually trying to VBA2C. Last time I had a failed VBAC thanks to a neglectful midwife so I was really discouraged until I found my current OB who was actually recommended by ICAN ( a vbac organization) . I feel really confident with him that I will be successful this time. He said my OR report looks good and everything is a go- he said as long as i dont give up on wanting one ( he said most women give in to repeat c-sections towards the end of pregnancy) There is NO way I am giving up! My biggest fear is going to 42 weeks like I did my last pregnancy, just the anxiety & pressure of it but luckly when I brought it up to him , he didnt seem that worried. Luckly my husband is 100% supportive, he is almost more traumatized by my c-sections then me. I had terrible recoveries and we both cant imagine volunteering to going through that again (unless my baby was truly in danger)

So if you are VBACing- are you using a Dr. or midwife? Are you confident or scared? Whats your feelings on it?

VBAC hopeful here! I'm using the SB Midwives. I'm a little anxious, but mostly excited. They have an 88% success rate w/VBAC attempts. I hired a doula that specializes in VBAC so I'll have constant support. The hospital (SB) has one of the highest VBAC rates on LI, so the staff has seen this before. They've also got a great OR/NICU staff, so if things don't go the way I'd like, we're in good hands. And I remind myself that I've already taken on, and survived, a lot of what scared me most: Pitocin, the baby being in distress, a c-section, nursing problems, and a rough recovery.

I know two OBs and a MW group that will take on a VBA2C, so fm me if you want their names.

I'm trying for a VBAC too. I'm excited and nervous - I really can't imagine going through another c-section recovery while caring for my son. I keep visualizing him lying in the bed with me and the new baby and not having to worry that he'll come close to the incision...

I'm using a midwife and hired a doula - I would be willing to stand on my head for the next 12-weeks if that helped this happen!

Good luck!

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

I had a scheduled C-section with my DD so the OB did offer me the option of VBAC this time around. I really like the idea of having the VBAC as I was extremely upset about having a C-section last time but at the same, I'm nervous. I am so scared of something going wrong. But then I am nervous about another C-section too.

I guess right now I'm leaning more towards the VBAC. Last time my water broke on its own (even though I still had my scheduled C) so I'm hoping maybe that will happen again because they will NOT let me go past 40 weeks.

I don't know, it's a hard choice. Chat Icon I want to do a little more reading up on the pros and cons of VBAC before I make any definitive decisions. I have time, I'm only 18 weeks.

I will be delivering at St. Charles again.

Not sure yet. There will only be 13 months between my 1st and 2nd babies. The doc said that VBAC is an option even though it is close together but we will talk about it later in preganancy as i was asking at my 8 week appointment.

I am hoping for a vbac as well. I had an emergency c section due to pre eclampsia with my twins.
My ob said he is willing to try for it as long as my or report looks good. We haven't discussed any other details yet.

I'm excited! I had to be put under general for my twins and missed pretty much their 1st 3 days of their life due to complications so the idea of giving birth is just amazing to me.
If I have to have another c section the only benefit will be I can get my tubes tied....because after this baby I am done!!!

I plan to VBAC only under the right conditions.... I have to go into spontaneous labor, this kid needs to be smaller and I will schedule my repeat at 40w1d (sooner if it's big). I used a midwife the first time and plan to use her again. Of course I also love the MD she works with

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

I had a successful VBAC with Dr. Schoenfeld at Three Village Women's Health in Stonybrook, delivered at SB hospital. He didn't deliver me but was there for much of my labor and was my primary doc. SUPER supportive and knowledgable.

Yes I hope to VBAC this time. I switched practices to one OB and 5 midwives, hired a team of doulas and am also attending ICAN meetings in my area. I'm trying to be positive about it, the mental part of it is the biggest!

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

Am definitely trying to go VBAC this time. I had a failed induction due to pregnancy-induced hypertension my 36th week and had a horrible and traumatic delivery. Didn't see my DS for 16 long hours.

I am using a practice that includes 2 OB's and I believe 2 Certified Nurse Midwives in Rockville Centre, same practice that I used for my DS. I asked at my apptmt this week about the VBAC and they are supportive and will let me try as long no issues arise (I am only 9 weeks now).

I want to try for a VBAC but I wondering.........is there anything I need to do in advance to prepare? Been reading up on VBAC but do you NEED a doula or any outside help? I really don't want a stranger with me in the delivery room, I just want my DH. Those who had VBAC, what did you do?

I had mine nearly 7 years ago Chat Icon but it was the nurse, DH and my OB would come and go to check on me. When I was in the home stretch, the OB was there to deliver. I did nothing to prepare except pray I went into labor on my own Chat Icon and didn't need anyone's help!

Did you go over 40 weeks? Thats what im scared of since my last attempt was at 42 weeks. Was it the nurse from the Dr.s office or the hospitals? Was the hospital staff supportive of your VBAC? Im hoping I can labor at home as long as possible . Last time I was told to go straight to the hospital when my waterbroke ( because i had alot of fluid and said it was risky) and i wasnt more then 1cm. Im hoping to go in and be at least 3 cm or more.

My OB won't let me go past 40 weeks. If I don't go into labor on my own then they will do the C section. They also said they want me in the hospital as soon as my water breaks so I can be closely monitored. Every OB is probably different but that's what they told me with regards to trying for a VBAC.

Thanks!!! A nurse and OB are fine.......I just didn't want any others with me.

So.........how did the VBAC go? Were you scared? Was everything ok? I am so nervous about the possibility of rupturing my scar even though I know the chances are slim. I realllllly don't want another C section though. Scary either way.

Not trying to stir up anything but unless there is a specific medical concern your OB has for *you* personally, I wouldn't say your OB is VBAC friendly just because of what you wrote. There's no reason not to wait past 40 weeks unless you have some complications or something. When I switched OB's this time, I didn't go by what the OB's office said, I went by OTHERS who TOLD me they have a VBAC at such and such office. Some offices say the are VBAC friendly but really aren't...just something to think about (obviously I'm just a poster on the internet but feel free to FM me).

ICAN I found INCREDIBLY helpful because you hear firsthand from people who had VBACs, preparing for VBACs, about certain offices and what they do etc.

I know I'm only prepping for mine now but while you don't have to have a doula, I'm having one this time because I want an advocate in there with me. Someone to tell me what my options are, give me suggestions of what to do in labor, tell me the pros/cons of the choices I have while I'm in labor etc....I felt kinda powerless last time even though all my close family (DH, mom etc) are in the medical profession...I want someone there who knows me, knows what I want and will advocate for me, follow up with me after etc.

No, I was only allowed to try up until 41 weeks, at which time he would have ordered a repeat c/s before I hit 42 weeks. I was also closely monitored for the baby's size, because he didn't want the baby over 8 lbs. I went into labor at 38.5 weeks, at which point I had to go immediately to the hospital, and she was born after 3 hours at 7 lbs 11 oz. My water didn't break first, I just had contractions. The OB actually broke my water while I was in labor. I was already 7 cm when I got to the hospital 2 hours after the first contraction.

The nurse was a hospital nurse. Actually, the only one that knew I was a vbac was the nurse in the room. But once I delivered and was waiting to be taken to a room, a ton of nurses popped their head in to congratulate me. The nurse who took me in my wheelchair to my room told me I was a mini celeb since a vbac was highly uncommon (remember, this was in 2006). They said my OB was one of the only OBs on staff willing to let their patients even try. I know in the last 6-7 years, a lot more ladies have been able to vbac successfully.

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

I just had a successful vbac at close to 41 weeks. I used a midwife but she wasn't there to deliver, so it was an ob. He really did everything in his power to make it a success - including keeping me out of the hospital for as long as possible. I coul not have done it without the doula, best decision ever!!!
