Camp Award WWYD

My four-year old just came home with an "award"- Camper with the Most Trips to the Infirmary. Not finding the humor in it...toss it in the trash or send it back with a little note?

I would write a note. I'd also be wondering what your child is trying to "get out of" by visiting infirmary. Is it legit boo boos or "my tummy hurts?" Is she avoiding a certain activity? Sitting by a certain child? Etc.

As a teacher, my first year I had one little girl always complaining her tummy hurt or she felt like throwing up to get out of math and/or social studies. It wasn't until a few weeks had passed with this going on every other day I noticed the pattern of when it was (subjects she was weak in).

I'd send it back to the director with a note. I'm assuming they were trying to be funny but I don't think a 4 year old gets that type of sense of humor.

My son's teacher gave a messy desk award out & I mentioned it to the principal that I didn't think they should be focusing on the negative.

I think it's inappropriate.

I don't think negative awards are constructive.

I'd also send it back to the director with a note and a follow-up phone call.

Re: Camp Award WWYD

send a note to the owner/director. what camp was it? I am looking for camps and i'd like to know if something inappropriate happened at one, although it may have just been a counselor with bad judgment.

Not funny, I would send a note to the director and state the obvious: A 4 yo would never understand that kind of "humor" and theynare wrong for focusing on the negative. My ds is almost 4 and I'm annoyed for you.

So not appropriate! I would speak with the director about it. It's really not funny.

I would definitely contact the camp director about it. That is not funny, and is opening the door for other kids to poke fun at her (maybe not the 4 year olds, but the older kids) camps are supposed to encourage friendships, positive experiences and help a childs self esteem. Not point out a negative. I would also ask your DD why she was there so much to have her side when i contacted the camp.

I guess I am in the minority here but I think it is quite funny!! I wouldn't make a big deal about it at all.

I have been known to make comments about my daughter being a "frequent flier" to the nurses office at school so I guess that is why it doesn't bother me in the least.

Don't put too much thought into it..It could be as simple as getting a bandaid or a mosquito bite or needing ice for something.

I'm in a different place and would have freaked out that my son went to the nurse that many times and no one told me. I know I have baggage from DS's illness, but I would be livid.

rewards should be positive and not to poke fun of others.

I was thinking the same thing. I just don't take things to heart very often!

Re: Camp Award WWYD

Did you know about all these trips? If not, I'd be on the phone immediately. Otherwise, I'd be annoyed but, probably wouldn't call up to complain. I will say, I wouldn't be sending my kid back there for sure.
