Question about sleeping and rolling over

DS has been rolling back to belly for about 2 months and just recently started rollingbelly to back. At night I put him to sleep on his back and he stays that way all night -- except last night, he kept rolling onto his stomach and sleeping like that.

My pediatrician is adament about him sleeping only on his back and I would prefer it if he slept on his back as well. Last night he would roll over and just keep his face smushed in the mattress and I kept going in and flip him back over, but that woke him and within a few minutes, he was back on his stomach.

Any advice?

Re: Question about sleeping and rolling over

We waited to transition DD into her crib until she was able to rollwell both ways, which was 7 months. I put her in the crib on her back everynight and within 30 seconds she is on her belly and sleeps that way the whole night. Ideally, I would like her to sleep on her back but I feel bc she is older and VERY mobile, she would be able to move about if needed. If she was younger I would worry more but I dont think there is much you can do, especially considering we are told not to out anything in the crib.

Re: Question about sleeping and rolling over

DS started rolling onto his back at night and it freaked me out...but i think a lot of babies are more comfortable on their tummies. he's been doing it ever since and i read that you should continue putting them down on their back, but if they roll it's ok. if you have a firm mattress, then it should be ok even if your LO is face-down. he's just gonna keep doing it if that's more comfy for him.

here is a babycenter article about it: http://www.babycenter.com/404_should-i-worry-if-my-baby-rolls-over-onto-his-tummy-while-as_3571.bc

Thanks ladies.

I hardly slept last night because I was so paranoid that he would stop breathing Chat Icon When he's awake he can lift and hold his head up fine, and lately when we're playing he'll roll to his tummy and put his head down to the side... but last night every single time he was on him tummy his face was smushed into the mattress.

Re: Question about sleeping and rolling over

I freaked out when my twins started doing this around 3mths and called the pedi. She said once they can flip themselves put them down on their backs but if they roll over just leave them. If they can roll and want to be on their stomach, they will just continue to roll over every time you flip them back and you can't stay up all night just flipping babies.

It's almost 2 months later and I still put them down on their backs but the second they touch the mattress they immediately flip to their belly. There is really nothing you can do.

Re: Question about sleeping and rolling over

Dd did the same thing and I was losing my mind. The dr said once she can roll, she will be fine. She rolls onto her belly every night and sleeps with her butt in the air.

Question about sleeping and rolling over

As long as they are puttin themselves on their tummy they are fine. My DS started doing it at 4 months and has not slept on his back since. Ped said it was perfectly fine.
