FTM looking for "sling" recommendation

Hi everyone!

I'm a FTM with a 9 day old DS and am now in the market for a sling of some kind. There are "slinglings" on sale on zullily, but I wasn't sure if that was a good brand. The Dr. sears sling is in amazon, but there are varied reviews for that one.

Can you recommend a good quality brand for a sling??

Tia!!

Not a sling, but I used a Moby wrap all the time with DD when she was little.

We both loved it.

Re: FTM looking for "sling" recommendation

We have a moby and a no name circular sling (like 1 piece of fabric, pretty much sewn in a giant loop) and I have to say I hate the Moby and love the crappy little thing.

I find the Moby to be overkill and take way too long to tie and adjust. I have twins so time is of the essence for me! I also find it oppressively hot, so bad for summer babies and someone like me who is warm a lot of the time.

The no-name sling, actually i think its called Seven?, works out fabulously. It doesn't feel as secure as the moby, like i wouldn't be running or cleaning or anything with this on, but to hold the baby while I prep lunch or something it gets the job done.

I think its less about brand and more about style, ring versus backpack style etc... so try and see if a friend has one you can try out or buy one or two and see what feels most comfortable to you.

The Moby, the Maya, and the Ktan are slings, but the Ergo and Becco are a totally different kind of carrier.

If you want a sling, I LOVED my Baby Ktan. It was easy to use, had 8 possible user positions, and had great back support. Another favorite seems to be the Ergo. It's a structured carrier with a bunch of different carrying positions. If you use it with a nb, there's an insert that's sold separately for better support.

Re: FTM looking for "sling" recommendation

sorry to hijack... i have a HORRIBLE back (fractured it in a car accident a couple of years ago) and was going to stay away from a baby carrier altogether, bc i was afraid of the strain it'd put on my back... but the idea of having 2 free hands really is great.
do you think the baby ktan would be my best bet?

Carriers are good for people with back problems; it helps distribute the baby's weight evenly and can prevent your back problems from getting worse. I think the Ergo would be great for you; it has excellent back support. Even better than the Ktan. I've seen people haul their gigantic toddler around in an Ergo!

My DS is 6 months old and 25 pounds Chat Icon

A sling was something we use DAILY for hours on end. My Mom is his nanny and loves to use the Maya wrao ring sling with the shoulder padding. HIGHLY recommend it.

We also use the Ergo and up until last month the Boba wrap.

I think for a 9 day old the boba wrap is a great bet..except it's summer and you'll probably get hot with all that fabric wrapped around you. Second best would be the Maya wrap. I think ergos and other soft structured carriers are best for older babies.

I agree about the Ergo. I have an Ergo, a snugli, a ring sling and some other sling. It feels like I am barely carrying anything with the Ergo because it distributes weight really well.
