Vent: Don't tell me what to eat!

I guess I'm supposed to hide my meals at work...because everyone has a freaking comment.

Now keep in mind, I'm not the best eater. I never was. I pick at food...and when I do eat, I'm sure it's not always the best choice. But I don't eat sweets, am a size 4, and never eat fast food. I'd say I eat healthier than a lot of people out there.

But with this pregnancy I am CRAVING carbs. I want homefries and bagels. Now I recognize this isn't ideal...and I have discussed gestational diabetes with my doctor. I'm a grown up and I understand the impact healthy diets have on pregnancies.

Everyday ,2 of my coworkers comment on my food choices. Every friggen day. Juice? Too much sugar. Eggs? You should get egg whites. Water? Not drinking enough. Bagel or potatoes? Too much starch. I've also heard 'not enough veggies' and 'need more protein.'

I don't solicit advice but receive it daily. I've become SO self conscious about meals at wOrk that I choose to eat alone.

Has anyone else experienced this?! What can I do??

Put up a sign next to you while you're eating "NO FOOD COMMENTS OR I WILL BITE YOUR HEAD OFF! Love, the woman growing a child over here"

I am so serious.

First off egg yolks have a nutrient in them that are amazing for the babys brain. So they dont even know what their talking about... If I.were you I would say something the next time they pass a comment... Just laughingly say ive gotten through (enter your age*) years eating what i want without your permission and its worked out so far.
So maybe we can leave the pregnant girl alone...

Nip it in the bud and tell them to F off! Chat Icon

Do these women have children of their own? I always found that the most advice regarding pregnancy came from women who don't have any children. Chat Icon

That would piss me off to no extent. I HATE when people comment on my food choices. I would politely tell them that you appreciate their guidance, but would prefer if they kept their opinions to themselves. And if that doesn't work, just tell them to f off.

How annoying! I don't get why people can't just mind their own damn business. you may have to get up the courage and start becoming sarcastic with them. Maybe then they'll get the hint.

Re: Vent: Don't tell me what to eat!

I agree with the other seniments here.

Tell them to sit on it.

Ask to see their medical degree next time they want to tell you what you should eat.

As long as you aren't downing sushi from the gas station and puffing on a lucky strike there is nothing to say (and even then it's not your baby so mind your beeswax).

I have no patience for people like that. I yelled at my dad when I was pregnant with DD because he made a comment when I ate an extra brownie for dessert at Thanksgiving. I have no problem saying something to aquaintences.

Thanks ladies!!!

Love the sign idea!!!

The two that are the biggest offenders do have children. And might I also add that they are both obese and they have terrible eating habits of their own!!!Chat Icon

It's just so freaking rude. I can't get over it.

Eggs yolks are also good for the placenta because of the cholesterol. I was told to eat whole eggs. So they can shut up on that one.

Tell them "thank you for your input, but I discuss my diet with my Dr. and he isn't concerned so you don't need to be either".

Do they always eat healthy? If not, I'd harp on every little thing they eat and see how they like it.

Then you should say, "You should really listen to your own advice."

Oh I'd be throwing it back at them. Or I'd say "I'm a size 4 so I think I know how to eat" then look them up and down judgingly.

(and this is coming from someone who is overweight. I'd never criticize any pregnant woman on eating habits let alone a fit woman when I'm obviously not one myself) Chat Icon

I told people when I announced that I was pregnant that this does NOT mean you can make comments on how or what I eat drink or do!!

But im that type of person and they know not to mess with me.!Chat Icon

best thing is to just be honest and tell them that it bothers you and you'd wish they'd keep their comments to themselves.

Re: Vent: Don't tell me what to eat!

This is one huge pet peeve of mine. It's one of the reasons I rarely post any pictures of my meals on facebook or whatever because people are so freaking judgmental. My sister is an amazing cook and I commented on her homemade ravioli picture on facebook and said something like wow I could eat that whole thing... My neighbor commented back and said "lean meats and veggies make for strong, healthy babies." I didn't bother to wb but it irked me.

People REALLY need to learn how to mind their own business. I honestly think maybe you could tell them nicely that you are an adult and are making your own decisions for your own baby. If they want to grow the baby in THEIR bellies, then and only then do they have the right to comment on what you eat.

Re: Vent: Don't tell me what to eat!

First of all, it happens to all of us! But, I usually say "Thanks, Mom! - now, leave me alone, I am pregnant! - You wanna settle this outside, cause I can literally kick your a$$ right now and get away with it!!!"

Try it, works for me Chat Icon

People are mean and full of crap and it's none of their business what you eat. You are an adult and others are right - go tell them to shut it.

Re: Vent: Don't tell me what to eat!

You have to either suck it up or get snippy.

My SIL commented on me eating two baby hot dogs. I flipped out on her and no one has said anything since.

I find that most people aren't malicious so I just kinda deal with it.
