Re: Placenta Accreta

I was monitored for it bc I had placenta previa and also had a previous c section. My dr. told me what would go on if I had it. It was more along the lines of them being prepared during the csection and also he might have scheduled me more towards 38 weeks then the 39 weeks that he originally said. Turns out I don't have it, dont even have the previa anymore, it completely lifted altogether.

The complications that he did tell me about were very serious but he did also say that he can count on one hand the number of times he's actually seen them arise in accreta patients.

Re: Placenta Accreta

This was a major concern of mine because my dad's mother had PPA during her third pregnancy and it did not end well. :( I talked extensively about it with two OBs and both assured me it is extremely rare, not genetic, and that these days the monitoring is much much better the medical techniques are better as well, and they will do an emergency-c if needed. i'm not trying to scare you -- the complications are typically much less severe than they were 50+ years ago, and only a very small percentage of PP cases are PPA. I would try not to worry about it unless you have to.

thanks Bearcat!!!!

if your doctor thinks you have the beginnings of accreta, its great that they caught it before delivery so you can be advised of delivery complications due to it.

unfortunately i didn't know i had it until delivery at which point it became a very severe issue for me. im not going to sugar coat - i had a very rough c-section and lost half of my blood volume with the dr. trying to remove the placenta. they were scarily close to doing a hysterectomy because that is the "general" cure for accreta... however being that it could be a known issue for you, i think the doctors will be well prepared with transfusion blood on hand and prepared for a surgical removal of the placenta with less risk of a hysterectomy. they do say that when the placenta develops over old c-section scars the chance of accreta is 25% if youve had one section and up to 50% if you had 2 or more csections. so chances are if you have accreta its because the placenta implanted directly over your old c-section scar.

im sorry to paint this picture but you said you have already googled accreta so im sure you've read about it. if you have any specific questions PLEASE FM me. i def dont want to scare you but accreta is a very serious complication. hopefully you don't have it at all and it's a false alarm. the good thing is that i do not believe that accreta itself has an effect on the baby, it's really more of an issue for the mother. good luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you soooo much! Thank you for being 100% honest with me also! I really truly appreciate that! I will be more aware to what is going to go on and happen before I am shocked in the delivery room. I'd rather be prepared more than anything. Your inforrmation was so helpfull! Hopefully it is a false alarm but if not id like to be prepared. If you dont mind, if any other questions arise do you mind if i fm you?!
