Are you transferring (or did you transfer) only 1 embryo?

My RE has recommended 2, but based on our history both my nurse and I feel that there is a higher chance of both implanting. Having twins isn't something that we are setting out to do. For a long while I thought that twins would be great...two babies with one pregnancy! But as the twin mothers I know are on long term bedrest or delivering very early, I just can't do it. Not to mention the thought of 2 babies in daycare is terrifying. Anyone else choosing to do a SET or have an experience they'd like to share?

Only you and your husband can decide if transfering 1 or 2 is right for you. Many people transfer 2...but many also choose to just transfer the best 1 back. Likely the best one is the one that would implant, and the other can be frozen for a future cycle.

For me, IVF is not covered by my insurance, so I would consider twins 2 for the price of 1! Chat Icon Is IVF covered by your insurance?

Nope...no insurance coverage. And we have agreed on transferring one.

i transferred 2. they both implanted but only one developed into a baby, the other stayed an empty sac.

so based on that experience i almost always recommend transferring 1.

however now that i have a baby, i would think about maybe transferring 1 since i already have a child and may not want to risk twins.. however i still think in the end i would still transfer 2. if i ended up with twins my family would be complete.

its not a decision i have to make now. but if i had no children at all i would absolutely transfer 2. it doesn't matter how "likely" you are to have both implant, anything can happen. my chances were as good as any and both DID implant. i only have ONE child though. and we'll never know which embie that was from. so if we transferred one and it was a blighted ovum i would have def beat myself up over not transferring two.

We are paying out of pocket and will only be transferring one. Our RE recommended waiting to do a 5 day transfer this way we know the embryo we do transfer is a strong one.

Our RE gave us the option, with caution that one could take or not take. We decided on two.... and so far, both have implanted. It was our decision ultimately. Chat Icon

I transfered 2 because I was in a clinical trial and didn't have a choice. But if I did have a choice I would have picked 2 anyway especially since it was my first time.

One baby stuck, but if I ever have to do a fet I will probably transfer 2 again.

For me not having ivf coverage has a lot to do with it.

Re: Are you transferring (or did you transfer) only 1 embryo?

This is something I have mulled over if i get to the IVF phase. I have one child, and would have been thrilled to have had 2 with that pregnancy. As a matter a fact, 2 implanted, but only one continued to grow.

Now that I have one child, I really only want 1 more, so I would only implant one.

You have to do what is right for you currently..sounds like you made a choice. Good LUCK!!!

Hi! I am a mom of twins. We transferred two and both took. We were ok with the possibility of twins. My only advice is that if you are not ok with the possibility, only transfer one.

We want one more and will only be transferring one next go around.

Yes, twins are expensive, a lot of work, and high-risk pregnancy. I was put on modified on bed rest at 26 weeks and had to stop working precautionary to avoid pre-term labor (I had no issues), had my Chat Icon Chat Icon at 37w3d, one was in NICU for one night, and that was considered a good pregnancy.

One of my IVF cycles I did transfer just one, but I only had one good one to transfer and that was a BFN. The next cycle I had three good embryos and we transferred all three but only one took.

Personally, if I had no insurance and my IVF was OOP, I would definitely transfer more than one.

We've talked about this recently, we have no insurance for IVF so we would transfer back 2. We are happy with the idea of twins bc then our family would be complete and we wouldn't have to pay twice
