When exactly did you start.....
Using OPK's, and temping, and other monitoring type stuff?
When did you stop  and letting see when it happened...and then moved over to the other more technical things? Or did you start using that stuff right away?
Just curious since I am a newbie here.

We had just been having fun for about two months but then realized we should find out my "fertile" days since I didn't seem to be too regular...so I started using OPK's in Dec 2011. I started temping this month. Lots of luck!!

i *thought* i would just wing it the first month...but after a week i decided i needed an opk!
i have to be honest and say i am glad i got an opk bc i had no idea how long my cycles were (was on birth control pill for 10 years prior). my cycles are 37 days, and i ovulate around day 24. if i went by the basic 28 day cycle theory, i would have been taking a pregnancy test for 2 weeks wondering why af was late...even though the reality is that i would have just finished ovulating at that time. 
i tried 3 months of just using an opk and have not been successful, so this month i decided to temp too. an OPK doesnt confirm that you actually ovulated where temping does...so now i do both.
it all depends on your personality i guess...im a control freak...I need to know exactly what is going on...so opk was a must for me! but if you are more relaxed then give it a few months.

Month 2 and it was the best decision I made. I was about 3-4 days off from when I *thought* I O'd.

Yea I go by the app on my phone that tells me when I am "supposed" to O, and I can feel when I O a lot of the times...but no idea if I am feeling that I am about to or already have or what. Mabye I will spring for the cheapo strips and some clear blue digitals and figure out when I actually O just so I can know.
I think we will wing it for a month and then I will start. The next time I am supposed to O we will be on vacation and won't be able to consistently POAS.

Vacation is a great time to TTC 
If you want to use cheapies at least backup with the digital smilies for certainty on days you think you are detecting a surge. My first month with cheapies I had like 4 days that seemed positive to me

Immediately.
My cycle is anywhere from 29-42 days.
DH is only ever up for a max of 2x per week with his work schedule, and I am prone to UTIs. So we figured best to try to make it count ASAP...

I think it was our third month trying that I started using OPKs. I used the first two to try and figure out my cycles on my own, and then once I *thought* I was getting regular, I decided the OPKs would be more reliable than my guessing.

It's technically my second month and I haven't started using OPK's yet. My cycle is 28 days and on point so i am going to just keep going with the calendar for another few months, then will see ab OPK's.

I haven't used anything as of yet. I have been off BCP since last April, and we started really "trying" in October I believe. If nothing happens in the next couple of months, I will start using OPKs.

DH and I have been just and seeing what happens for 2 months. I have been having other issues with my cycle so I'm going the gyno tomorrow to see what she suggests.

I started using them a few months after my wedding, and realized that I wasn't getting a high reading due to my PCOS. Continued to use them until I received my first  in Oct, then had a CP in November.
After going to the RE, my dr advised me that OPK's aren't an accurate test for ovulation in women with PCOS, so I've just been winging it for now.
Since your going away on vacation, I'd start to use the OPKs when you come back. Just have fun and see what happens.
Hoping you come back with a little souvenir

This is my 7th cycle off BCP (about 6 months off BCP); i haven't started using OPK yet. I might try to start using OPK's next cycle to get a better idea of when I'm O'ing.

2nd month in...then my 4th cycle I attempted temping but i couldn't keep it up. I'm taking a break from all that stuff though because it can make you a little nuts. Once we go back to actively TTC, we'll see. I might give it another shot with the opks and temping

When we decided to try for a baby we started opk.
That's all I have done. I have no desire to temp and do other extra measures.
It made no sense, for ME, to see what happens. Why wouldn't we want to know when I'm most fertile?

I did start using OPK's (I bought the target OTC ones.) these used FMU which is very convient for me because i am constantly in my car for work and can't always POAS the same time of the day...soo maybe get these for your trip? Or just have fun, and wing it and a lot of times....would be a great story of how you were made   to you in Disney!

Yea if we don't get lucky in Disney then I will try OPK's when we get back for the next cycle to make sure I know when I am O'ing..
But that would be one hell of a great story!

Spent 2 or 3 months winging it, but cycles weren't regular so i started using opks and realized i O'd MUCH later than i thought. Used opk's for 3 months til bfp... then miscarried. After m/c i used opks & the monitor and eventually fertility meds, it took another 6 months with all that for bfp again.
