Walkers

Did you/would you use one? I know this is like the whole bumpers thing but I'm curious bc walkers have been around forever. I have one for DD that we haven't used yet (she is 8 months old) and I always planned on using one but now I'm feeling a bit

i used one and dd loved it. they are much safer now too. the one we had is impossible to fall fown stairs...she actually couldnt get over the bump between rooms bc it would get stuck on the safety things. obviously we have gates by the stairs anyways. she walked at 12 months old so it didnt affect her walking.

and i used one and so did my siblings...were all fine lol

as long as your child is supervised its fine

We used one, but she was over it in 5 minutes. There were days that she loved and other days that she would scream.

We used them. The boys loved it and raced around in them all day long playing bumper cars. Obviously didn't let them near stairs. I plan to use one again w/ this baby.

We used one too for DD. our house is single
Story, no stairs at all. But she didn't like it anyway. Cried every time I put her in it

Our ped strictly said no walkers. I have personally known several babies who fell down flights of stairs in their walkers so they scare me. You can be SO SO careful but accidents do happen. We have 2 sets of staircases in our house so we would not risk it.

both my girls walked at 10 months (almost to the day) and didn't crawl for month later. They loved being on their feet. We live in a ranch and used a walker as well as walking wings. They both really enjoyed the walker and it was the most basic one out there. It certainly didn't delay either of them in walking (esp. since one walked a day before 10 months). Walking wings were great too b/c there was only so much our backs could take!

Despite my pediatrician saying no and I, as a baby, went down a flight of stairs in one so my mother is very unhappy with them too (even though she left me unsupervised in it), we have one and DS loves it. It's my saving grace. I have the gate up and he moves like an 1" every 10 minutes but it keeps him happy and occupied. He likes his freedom.

We have the orange Chicco one.

Love, Love, LOVE walkers! Both my DC used one and they loved it too!

I personally don't understand people not wanting to use them because of the stair issue. If you supervise your DC and make sure that there is no access to the stairs in it, then there isn't a problem. I'm sorry, but IMO if your child goes down the stairs in a walker, the parent is to blame. And I know someone who had their DS go down their basement stairs in one. Kids can get hurt from falling out of a high chair if the parents are not supervising properly.

For me, the walker allowed my DC to move around during a time when they weren't walking yet. They could explore, they could go quickly from one side of the room to another. Great item to help ease some of the frustration when they aren't yet able to move to where they want on their own!

ETA: The other argument against walkers tends to be the fact that people think it delays them walking on their own. As I mentioned, both my DC used one and my DS was walking by 11 months and my DD was walking at 10 months. So I don't agree with that argument either!
