Re: Finding out gender....Are they ever wrong?

Sorry...my ipad won't let me edit text...

What I wanted to say was that I am exactly 18 weeks with twins and I went for my bi-weekly visit (considered high risk) and asked if I asked if they could rell me the sex of the babies. Both the tech and the doctor said both are boys but I only definitively saw one for myself! How accurate are they at this point? I don't want to make announcements if I'm not sure, but they seemed confident. What do you think?

They can and have been wrong!

Personally I would wait until the 20 week anatomy scan and until they can print pics and show me the goods.

Even still, I have sono pics and confirmation at 3 different sonos and I still wonder if they're correct! lol!

I would say at 18 weeks you're good to go...its definitely more rare to be told boy at that point and end up with a girl...

Of course it does happens where a doctor/tech is wrong..but i think you're good to go..i feel like with boys, its very easy to tell at that point.

they were wrong with my cousin 4 years ago. they told her it was a boy. She painted the nursery blue and got all blue stuff and when the baby was born it was a girl.

I was told boy at 17 weeks and didn't believe it either bc I didn't see the goods myself. But.... I had them double check at my last sono at 25 weeks and we were confirmed boy. If they seemed sure at 18 weeks, I'd say you probably have Chat Icon Chat Icon.

My friend was told Chat Icon at 17 weeks and due to other reasons had another u/s at 22 weeks only to find out it was a Chat Icon! She was born a girl, so the first one was wrong.

Re: Finding out gender....Are they ever wrong?

I know one person with twins who had an ultrasound around 16-18 weeks and was told Chat Icon Chat Icon. At her Level II a few weeks later, she found out she was having Chat Icon Chat Icon. It probably doesn't happen often, but there's a possiblity of being told the wrong sex.

My good friend was told their baby was a girl... and was reconfirmed at her 20 weeks appointment, but at her last sono (at 36 weeks) they changed it to boy! AFTER her shower! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So, it happens.

I understand your wanting to be certain, I didn't believe that both babies were boys bc I didn't see anything on the Baby B, like I saw on Baby A... I would wait until you see "it" for yourself.

Re: Finding out gender....Are they ever wrong?

Thanks for all the responses! I guess only time will tell. It's just so funny because DH and I were dead set against finding out, but then at 16 weeks we changed our minds. On that visit, my OB said a boy and a girl but he was a bit unsure of the girl so he said it was like 70/30. Then this week at my 18 week visit (with Dr. Kofinas who is a very good perinatal doctor) it was confirmed that the 1 was a boy, and I clearly saw it for myself, and that the other was in fact a boy - but I still couldn't see anything! That baby is low-lying and positioned at the far end of my tilted uterus so it's always hard to see. Yet, Dr. Kofinas said definitely boy.....Chat Icon I really wanted to announce the news to our family but I guess I'll just wait for my next visit.
