Pinterest is like a big, visual message board. You browse through "pins" which are really just photos of different things- clothes, home decor, DIY crafts, jokes, recipes, wedding ideas, ideas for parents, anything and everything you can think of. Each picture is actually a link to where you can purchase the item pictured or directions on how to make the item pictured (if it's DIY or a recipe or something of that nature). You can "re-pin" a pin that you like on your own board. You can "pin" things you find on a different site. You can "pin" things you've made yourself. It really is awesome. But also highly addictive.

Well they say in the article it's to keep the site free of spammers, bots, predatory companies and other internet fun-ruiners.  And I have to say, it IS free of those things. Nobody is trying to sell you anything except your fellow peers.
If you need an invite, let me know!

I have an invite to this but I don't use FB or Twitter, so it seems I can't get on here. Why do you have to have FB or twitter to get on? Is there a way around this?
