Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

My Dr. only wants me to gain 25-30 lbs. I am 24.5 weeks and already up 20lbs. I feel thats too much. I have a feeling Im going to go over the 30lbs. Is that terribly bad?

I tried to stay within the 25-35lb weight gain but I have hit 35 and I still have 2 weeks to go. I didn't over indulge but I also didn't stop myself If I wanted something. I gave up worrying about weight gain Chat Icon

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

i think i eat pretty healthy, and i still managed to go a few lbs. over. in the beginning my doctor warned me not to gain too much, but he told me this month that he is happy with where my weight is...so don't get crazy over it, they just don't want you to throw caution to the wind and eat whatever/whenever you want, and put on 70 lbs. i'm sure you'll be fine! Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I didn't stay anywhere under the recommended weight gain.. It was 20 pounds!!! I gained 39lbs.. I went from losing 5 pounds in the first month to gaining just the right amount and then around 7 months, I gained almost 11 pounds in 1 month... The nurses there said it was normal for weight gain to fluctuate.. My son was 8lbs 6oz and HEALTHY!!!!

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I went over with my DS. I gained a total of 40lbs. It took me a long time to get that weight off. This time I swore I would be more careful and of course, I'm already up 24lbs at 30 weeks. Too much food during the holiday!! I'm just so hungry all the time.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I have gained a total of about 20lbs during my pregnancy. I'm almost 37 weeks.
I can't say that it was because I tried or did'nt try...I believe people just gain at their own rate. I have not followed any diet except for making sure I drink enough fluid and get sufficient calcium thru milk or yogurt.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

My doctor wanted me to gain about 20 lbs last time. I gained 45 lbs. I had severe swelling and gained over half of it during the 3rd trimester. I was down 31 lbs by 1 week PP and lost the rest by 6-8 weeks PP. I hope to not gain anywhere near that amount this time.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I'm up 14 lbs. in twenty weeks....I'm sure i'll be going way over the 30lb limit...with my first pregnancy i was extremely disciplined and i gained about 32 lbs....with this pregnancy i have been eating like a mad women, so i know its going to be more....
I'm dreading getting weighed in at the doctor tomorrow..it's embarrassing when they tell u how much you've gained since your last visit.

During my first pregnancy, I gained approx 40 lbs. I lost it all by the time DD was 7 months old. My hips and ribs still had to go back in so I was wider, but by the time DD was 1, they did and I was back in all my old clothes.

This time, Dr said 30lbs, but I'm gaining similarly as last time, so I'm sure I'll go over and have the confidence I'll lose it again.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I am almost there! OB told me 20 lbs, I am 23 weeks and +13 lbs and "measuring big". So I will def. exceed my weight recommendation. I am thinking I will end up ganining about 35 lbs.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

my doc told me anywhere between 25 and 35 pounds is the average weight gain. I am up about 40 pounds at 37 weeks. He never says anything about my weight at my appointments, I guess as long as my blood pressure is ok he is happy.

I'm not staying under it -- I'm blowing it out of the water.

For first pregnancy, I gained 10lbs to ovulate/get pregnant, then I gained another 45lbs from the pregnancy.

Lost most of the pregnancy weight (except for 5lbs) before I got prego with #2. Then I gained 35lbs.

Lost the 40lbs from both pregnancies when I got prego with #3. Lost 5lbs due to M/S in first trimester but I'm now up 30lbs and I'm only 31 weeks. Oye.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I was actually heavier going in than I thought, so I have gained less than I thought.

I thought I gained 25 lbs, but I actually have only gained 16 (that was at my last visit).

My doc said that I shouldn't exceed 30lbs. So the way I see it I can gain 15 more pounds in the next 15 weeks. Most of that will be baby though.

So I decided that I am continuing to eat as much as I want, but just healthier things. In addition I am walking again on my lunch hour and upper body weight training again (which I was doing pre-pregnancy but stopped).

I also just bought 10 prenatal yoga classes through groupon...if anyone is near Garden City, they are having a special!! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

My doctor wanted me to keep my weight gain to under 15 lbs since I started out at over 200lbs.

I am now at 28.5 weeks and have gained 18 lbs.

So I am certainly not going to be keeping it under 15 lbs! I'm already over that!

However I am within the recommended amounts for "normal" women at this point.

And I am not trying to stress too much over it.

I walk several times a week. I write down everything I eat. I try to make sure that I hit all of my food groups each day so that my diet is balanced. And I love cookies! Chat Icon

I gained 33lbs with DS

At my last appt at 34w I was up around 28lbs so it looks like I am gaining the same.

For me the weight gain slows towards the end. I put on a lot in the beginning. It could be the same case for you.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

No way.

My doc didn't make any weight recommendations, but at almost 28 weeks I am up 31 pounds. Chat Icon

I lost it all fairly quickly with DD, though, so i'm not worried.Chat Icon

I don't even know how much I gained in total because I said I didn't want to know but I WAS told that it is ahead of schedule and that I should just drink water instead of other drinks Chat Icon I know for sure it's over 20 lbs and I was only 22 weeks at my last appt? ugh...It's horrible. It depends how much you weigh to begin with. If you gain too much you are at risk for gestational diabetes which could be bad. And that could also lead to a bigger baby and difficult birth.

I gained 40 lbs (92 to 132lbs.), 43% more than my pre-preggo weight, and that was a big concern for my doctor 'cus I ended up with GD and a baby that they thought was going to be 8+ lbs.

Re: Anyone not staying under the recommended weight gain?

I had not gained anything the first 4 months now because I ate whatever I wanted and all the holiday goodies I gained 21lbs. I am not very happy actually stressing a bit about it but my Dr. says if I go back to my normal eating I could level off and or possibly lose. I hope so!
