Thought I would ask here as well as Parenting Chat- TIA!!!
Northport Area Kindergarten Help -FullDay???
I need to send my DS to full-day Kindergarten, I am a FTWM and I since NPT only offers 1/2 day I do not want to worry about half day care or juggling him, plus I have a almost 3 yr old DD so she will be in a preschool also. So can you tell me what you think of
Trinity?
St. Pauls?
Others that offer Full Day??
Thanks so much!!!!!!!
There are Open Houses coming up at these locations but wanted to know the inside scoop if possible before going.

My son is in Kindergarten at Trinity this year. I love it there. I did the whole catholic vs public school debate prior to enrolling and catholic won for me. This was before all the 1/2 day issues arose. I try to be very involved in activities at school and I really enjoy it. The families are great, the teachers are wonderful and my son enjoys it. I find a mix of famililes now who are only there for a few years as a result of the 1/2 day in many of the districts and others who stay the whole time. Each situation is unique, but as for the program I think it's great.

I had a very bad experience at Trinity & so did several friends of mine so I wouldn't recommend them.
I've heard wonderful things about St. Pauls. If you plan to eventually go to public school, I think Island Kids is pretty good because they'll know kids in their elementary school.

Our son attended LuDay last year, he had a wonderful experience.
They have a pre-school program and a kinder steps program as well.
We were very happy, our son still talks about how he loved going to school there.
The fact that Northport/east Northport does not offer full day K is archaic. The BOE needs to hear from more residents and step up the foundations offered in the district. We should get an online petition going ASAP...think we could get 100 signatures by next Monday (next BOE meeting)?

Ok then, I will set this up by the weekend...
If we sign, and pass the link on to others who could then pass it to others we will be in a good place in no time!
The question should be with all the new initiatives the admin and BOE is pushing down why is full day k not one of them...

I'm not in Npt/E. Npt school district but the district I am in is also half days. I send my dc to an enrichment program and I have to say that I am so happy I am doing this. The enrichment program builds upon the school curriculum and really enhances the learning. Since the district is half day, the preschool and daycare centers offer alternatives. If you pick a center within your elementary school lines, busing would also be provided.

Nice, you too live in one of the 4 or 5 districts on all of LI with 1/2 day K.
Im sorry, but if the city can offer universal PRE-K then ALL LI districts should be able to start moving some of their HS money down to the Elementary Level if need be.

Universal PRE K is funded by a grant offered through NYS, not the individual school districts. NO district money goes into it.
As for full day kindergarten, good luck 
MANY districts have kindergarten on the chopping block as kindergarten is NOT state mandated. NO school district HAS to have kindergarten. So half day is better then nothing is going to be the answer you get.
