I've always known of the girl's mother to really take care of it, maybe along w/the Godmother if that's been determined yet...I mean I think it would be nice for BOTH mothers to if possible, but traditionally you have a daughter, you do her baby shower...
my MIL knows about the shower, my mom consulted w/her for dates, certain guests, etc, but shedidnt ask for anything else, nor did MIL offer...
my mom only has me, no other children, MIL has 3 daughters, all of whom she's thrown showers for...so my mom kinda wants this to be her thing anyway...
and she's been working a bit with my best friend (the Godmother) as well as MY Godmother w/details such as invites, favors, etc...

I am glad to see the results and hear this. Wanted to make sure that my Mom wasnt being overbearing by insisting that it be her responsibility  My MIL thought they would share the responsibility but my Mom said she would rather do it all...

My mom will be hosting my shower only bc DH's mom has passed. I think that if she were here, she would def have chipped in and I don't think my Mom would have had any issues with that.
I just went to a friends shower where her mom paid for her guests & family and his mom paid for her family and guests.

My mom already said she would be taking care of mine... if dh's mother wants to help out/chip in, then all well and good... but shes in FL and prob not even coming to the shower so i doubt there would be any help

I don't know..for some reason my Mom wants to be responsible monetarily for the whole thing. I think its just old-fashioned..but I am not going to argue or insist. I just want there to be smooth sailing and no drama

It def is old fashioned... I hope we all have drama free showers though

Both my mom and DH mom took care of both my bridal and baby showers. My sister also helped alot with both.

yeah I think "traditional" is a good way to put it better than old fashioned (although they are sometimes synonomous) everything about our wedding was traditional too, engagement party, shower, rehearsal, etc...
also my MIL has always said that she was buying the furniture for our first child (because she has with all of her other kid's first kids, its like her tradition) and that was rough for my mom, considering she always thought she'd buy my first baby's furniture...but DH and MIL insisted that is their tradition and since she can afford more, my mom backed off, so with the shower now, she's making up for the furniture!!! LOL
p.s. - side note- now that we have to order furniture this weekend, MIL has renegged on her offer to buy...she may "go half if she can"...isn't that sweet???

Sounds like something my MIL would do... Very nice woman but I really just dont get her sometimes

I live in ohio now so i had 2. My mom had one for me when i was 31 weeks and MIL had one for me last weekend. Obviously I know this is not typical, but for some reason it has been the tradition in DH's family. For both his brothers wives...they have had more than one baby and bridal shower. For one of my SIL's she had 3..from her mom, step mom, and MIL...lucky girl!

I choose other, My mom passed away sometime ago. So my sister and two best friends planned EVERYTHING. My mother in law knew i wanted it that way,She helped pay for it but didnt interfer with any of the planning

When I had my shower 6 years ago my Mom, sisters and Aunt planned the party. My Aunt hosted it at her house and had the food catered in and my sisters and mom handled the rest.

From what I gather my mom planned most of my baby shower, she organized it, got the favors, invitations and decorations (with the help of some friends and my sister in law) and researched restaurants.
When it came to picking the place, my in laws were involved in the decision and the cost of the restaurant was split pretty evently between my folks and DH;s

I planned and paid for it....my parents are low income and I didn't want them to to be burdened by the expense of this. Admittedly... I aslo wanted a fairly lavish shower.
Hubby and I hosted it, my sister helped out ALOT with coordinating and doing all the decorating with my Mom amd MIL. It was an amazing time.
