What age for the LeapFrog LeapPad?

DS will be 3 in December. Between the holidays and his birthday, I'm trying to come up with a list of gifts to get him. The recommended age for the LeapPad is 4-9, but I've seen some posts about people getting it for their 3 year olds.

Do you think the LeapPad is appropriate for a 3 year old or would it be better to buy when DS is at least 4?

Also, does anyone have any other gift recommendations for a 3 year old? He already got a bicycle as an early present which has been a huge hit, but I'm at a loss about what else is good for this age.

My twins will also be 3 in Dec. and are getting leap pads for one of the december events! They work the ipad and its apps with complete ease, so I am confident they will love the leap pad!! They will also be getting a train table.

im in the same boat. DD will be 3 in dec and im debating whether to get it this year or next year. i dont have an ipad, so i have no idea how she would be with it.

My DD just got it for her 3rd bday last month and it is easily the single, GREATEST thing she owns!! She LOOOOOOVES it!!!! She is very tech savvy though. She was a pro with IPads, my Droid phone, the laptop. She took to the Leap Pad within two minutes. The games are WONDERFUL and I like that she can't mess anything up on the Leap Pad like she can with my phone or computers. She loves taking videos and pictures with it and there is the adorable Art Studio game that she loves.

As the mom of a December baby...get it. Even if you put it away until the summer, I think sometime between 3 & 4 your child will use it. So put it on the list.

I do this with DS..every year for the holidays someone gets him outdoor toys...he can't use them for the summer but why not. Then in the summer its like he is just opening it for the first time! He gets all excited!

My DS will be 3 in December also and this is what I am getting him for his birthday. He plays games on my iPhone all the time so I know he will LOVE this.

DH & I plan to get the new iPad 3 when it comes out next year. I don't want DS playing with them so the LeapPad is perfect because then DS will have his own and not want to play with ours.

I am pretty sure I am getting this for DS. I have read a number of reviews on the leap frog website and there are a number of moms who have 2 and 2 1/2 year old using this. DS will be 3 in February.

We are in the same boat - debating getting a pad for our almost 3 year old. We probably will, since she is already reasonably comfortable playing gales and some apps on an iPad. But we are unsure which one. Any reason why you prefer the LeapPad over V-Tech's pad?

Thanks. I see that there are a bunch of games and apps you can buy for the LeapPad. Does anyone have any recommendations for games for a 3 year old?
