Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

When you have/had your LO, and you are/were Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon what are/were the pros and cons? DH and I are considering not finding out because we'd like the surprise, but I'm a super anal planner... Are there any reasons you would have found out, but didn't... Idk if I'm making sense at all. This is DC2 for us and I'm still up in the air about Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But what really NEEDS to be planned and prepared? Nursery? If you don't like neutral you can do it after baby is born. Clothes? People will buy once baby is born and everyone knows gender. Stroller/carseat/other access? Gender neutral or exchange once baby is born.

To me, there must be no greater feeling than when the dr says, "it's a ___!"

Plus it's so much fun people guessing all the time, including myself. I have no desire to find out and same with DH. We're actually reallly excited for the surprise.

I wanted to find out at first, DH didn't, and I'm so glad that I let him win that argument Chat Icon

for all the reasons above exactly!!! I can't wait to hear it, and it is alot of fun guessing...and every time LO moves I love wondering "is that my SON? or my DAUGHTER?" Chat Icon

Also when you have baby #2 you can REUSE ALL the stuff again!!! If you find out and #2 is the opposite sex, you can't strap a boy in a pink stroller. kwim? Chat Icon

we are not finding out. I think it is one of the last nice surprises left in life.
This is out 1st and i know we want more kids so i would be getting everything gender neutral anyway (such as car seat, push chair etc). Everyone we tell loves that we are doing it and the betting has started already!!

But i cannot wait till April to find out!!

Re: Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

We were team green both times and I wholeheartedly agree with all of the sentiments of the BTDT's on this post. It is so exciting! Think of your friends / family giving birth. Day of, aren't you more on edge, checking your phone more times when you don't know what the baby is than if you did? People guess - and are ADAMANT Chat Icon

The other thing I felt strongly about was that I was basically pampered for the 9 months - everyone wanted to talk to me, ask about me, how am I feeling. Waiting to find out the gender gave my DH his 'thing' - he got the most exciting reveal of all, running into the waiting room to announce "It's a Boy!". I wanted him to have that - and he loved it Chat Icon

There is nothing more exciting that waiting til that finally moment when they tell you if it's a boy or girl.....it is so exciting. I have to say it was the most exciting moment of my life. When the doctor said to my DH 'look what you are a having a daddy' and he said OMG girl...(everyone told me that I was having a boy) I was soo shocked! Me and my DH just hugged each other and cried. Such a special moment! Chat Icon

I completely understand the thrill of waiting...but for me I was also looking forward to the planning and decorating! For #2 I think Ill be team Chat Icon . I made sure to only register for gender neutral big things, such as car seats, bouncer and swing, high chair, etc. I would only need new clother if we were to have a boy.

When we found out the gender at 19 weeks, we were to excited and surprised and we cried...so we also got that experience...it was just soonerChat Icon

Re: Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

I have always wanted that whole "it's a _______" feeling when having a baby!!! I am so looking forward to that. There are so few surprises in life, and this is one that i would not let anyone change my mind.

i am not going to lie, it gets hard, b/c i start to think my poor child has no clothes to wear, but like someone said, once the baby is born, people will bring clothes

There are a lot of gender neutral furniture out there and you could always buy the bedding after baby is born (especially if you plan on keeping the baby in your room for a few months)

DH and I are crazy and we ordered two sets of furniture and had the doc fax over a letter to the store saying what gender the baby is and the store only put through that order. We are having the furniture delivered after the baby is bornChat Icon

Being team green is also fun b/c i love hearing everyones guesses and why they think we are having a boy/girl

Re: Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

We are team Chat Icon . All the new parents we talk to who chose not to find out the sex say it was the greatest thing ever!! Plus, right up until the end people are guessing what it will be, and waiting to find out after the baby is born - it makes for an even bigger birth announcement.

Also, we knew we wanted more than one child, so we would have purchased all gender neutral gear anyway. And NOT knowing has saved me so much $$$, because I know I would be buying every cute outfit in sight if only I knew whether to buy for a Chat Icon or Chat Icon .

Re: Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

We;re team Chat Icon ! Although everyone around us i.e. friends and family keep saying how HARD it is not to know the sex of the baby, I have not found it difficult at all!

Since this is our first, I too, would have and did registry for all gender neutral big items anyway and as a default I would go with something in a baby blue color bc I figure that works for a girl or boy.

The only thing that is gender dependant IMO is bedding and clothing. Clothing- we have recieved some gender neutral stuff and i am sure will be getting more clothing as gifts once baby is here- and those will be gender specific.

CON
So the only con is that we cant set up our nursery before hand, and once the baby is here I probably wont have as much time to really put 100% effort into decorating the nursery. I am trying to get ideas of what I want for either gender before hand so that when the time comes its just a question of pulling the trigger-- Although our furniture will not be arriving until after the baby is here bc it is gender specific as well.
If you go with a gender neutral nursery this wouldnt be an issue for you at all.

I havent felt this way but some do say that you would bond more with baby if you knew the gender before hand.

PROS
I love the suspense and excitment of trying to figure out if its a boy or a girl. I love when friends and family try to guess. And I cant wait for the moment when we find out!!!!

Re: Pros & Cons of Team Green Parents...

We were team green with our DD 6 years ago and we are team green now again with our new baby due in March!

People think we are out of our minds! They say that it would be so much easier to find out the sex, especially since it has been so long since we had our DD. And it will be our last child! People are constantly trying to talk us into it!

To be hoenst it WOULD be easier. I have crates and crates and crates of my DD's old clothes that I could go through and donate if we were having a boy.

However I don't think it would be nearly as fun. I loved hearing the words "It's a beautiful baby girl" when my DD was born. It was a moment that I can never compaire with anything else in the world.

The good thing is that a lot of the infant things we had ... the travel swing, the bouncer, infant sized clothing, is all neutral.

When my DD was born in October we got her Pottery Barn bedding for Christmas, when she was 3 months old. Before that we just had a simple sheet and bed skirt, and it worked out just fine. Then we were able to tailor her room to fit her perfectly.

And we will do the same with this baby. Due in March and we will buy the bedding after the baby is born.

I feel so strongly about this decision! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon all the way!

Waiting to find out the gender gave my DH his 'thing' - he got the most exciting reveal of all, running into the waiting room to announce "It's a Boy!". I wanted him to have that - and he loved it

All of this.

At my shower I got a nice amount of clothes but definitely NOT as much as my friends who found out. We got the big items (car seat, swing, pack n play, stroller, high chair, etc.). All neutral things that could be used for Chat Icon #2

DD was 9lbs and outgrew a lot of her neutral clothes within the first 2 weeks. She had a CLOSET FULL of dresses and pink onesies before we were even discharged from the hospital.

She wore pink on the way home with a pretty pink knit hat she got in the nursery.

People will bring Chat Icon or Chat Icon with them when they visit you in the hospital. And we were receiving gifts in the mail even a month after she was born.

Do not worry about the clothes!!!

My favorite part about being Chat Icon was the minute my doctor pulled her out and said "IT'S A MEGHAN!"
omg the JOY and excitement!!!!

I still tear up thinking about my DH's walk to the waiting room to tell our moms who had been there the whole 30 hours while I was in labor. He videoed the walk and reveal. Watching my mom shriek "It's a GIRL?!?!?!" into the camera is priceless.

It's a great surprise but it's not for everyone. It's hard to hold out but if you can, it's one of the best and most exciting surprises you'll ever have!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with all of this!
We were team Chat Icon with dc#1 and team Chat Icon again this time! I loved it the first time and wouldn't have it any other way. That moment in the delivery room when the dr. announces is the BEST!!! It will make all the months of waiting and wondering sooooo worth it!

i was team green and would def do it again. it was not hard at all. it was something i always knew i wanted to do. i am not a planner at all so it was easy. DH was on board and we both know we are going to do it again for #2. the only sucky thing was that i ended up with emergency c-section at 33w due to preeclampsia. i was under general anesthesia and DH wasnt allowed in the room. we never got that "its a girl" moment. the nurses did wait until i was awake to tell DH and I together (we tried to find out before the surgery but it wasnt possible) but i have such a foggy memory because i was alll drugged up. it was definitely lackluster finding out that way but since i had issues and preemie there were wayyyyy more important things to worry about.

I am on the fence as well about not finding out. DH really didn't want to find out with dd and I did but eventually he gave in and we found out. I really loved knowing what I was having, it was so fun to buy all cute pink clothes and accessories, my shower was very girly and cute. This time around I think I want to have the its a.... moment. My dh really wants to stay team green so I may compromise and let him have his way this time. I am just so antsy I don't know how I'll hold out.

I wouldn't change a thing. It was exciting not knowing. The moment our little GIRL was born and we saw her for the first time...was the best moment of our lives not just because she was here but because finding out that she was a girl was the greatest surpirse in the world! Once in a lifetime.
I will be team green again for her future siblings!

Good Luck!

Well...since you did ask for Cons as well... Chat Icon

I was team green for my 2nd and quite honestly, it was totally anti-climactic in the delivery room. There are soooo many other things going on in the room and in your head that the baby's gender doesn't even register on the scale.

All you care about is that baby is healthy, you wait anxiously to hear that first cry, omg...that first cry!!! You wait to hear the score, you wait to be stitched up, you are wondering if anything is going to hurt, you are hoping you don't pass out or throw up from the drugs, you want to see the baby, hold the baby, you are saying to yourself "dammit, my DH BETTER be taking some good pictures over there"... because you can't get up and see when baby is being weighed, cleaned up, etc. Everything BUT the gender is going through your mind.

The whole "it's a boy" moment didn't even register.

It must've been fun for everyone else (friends and family) waiting to find out, but for us, planning would have been more fun. But we are planners and we like that. This time, I definitely found out because I knew, it just was not worth it.

This time around, finding out at the u/s and knowing it was coming and planning how to tell everyone, was so much more exciting and fun for us.

That was just my experience though!
