Pediatrician Dilemma? Help!! Smithtown area...

Hi Ladies-

I'm about to pull my hair out. I am stressing about pediatricians way too much lately. I met with Dr. Ancona at Branch Ped, Mid Suffolk Pediatrics, and spoke to Dr. Valmassoi at Smithtown Pediatrics.

I didn't realize what I'm looking for in a Dr is so difficult to offer.....

Basically i'm looking for a dr's office open in the evening& Saturdays, and willing to alter the vaccination schedule.

Dr. Valmassoi seemed awesome when we spoke but she is not willing to spread out the vaccinations. I don't want my newborn to be bombarded with shots. (I don't understand why a newborn needs a hepititus B vaccine in the hospital. It's a sex. transmitted disease/needle transmission- when asked, using this as an example the dr's are never able to give me a clear answer).

Dr. Ancona seemed more willing but I didn't get the vib that he'd be 100% on my side. He seemed stuck in his ways.

Mid Suffolk Ped had me meet with the office manager who just yes'd me to death on everything. My friend says they aren't willing to alter the vaccination schedule.

Can ANYONE out there help me out??? I'm getting really desperate.

We used Dr. martinez at smithtown ped but he is no longer with them so we now see Dr Val We LOVE HER!! So sweet and so caring. We had no issues with their vaccine schedule. I know 2 people that use Ancona they love him and say he is definitely old school.

I love Dr. V!! She is wonderful with DS. I don't like that they don't space vaccinations either, but I kind of just dealt with it. I refused the Hep B when in the hospital and got it done at DS first Ped visit. I just didn't want him to have a vaccination the day after he was born.
I really like Smithtown Pediatrics and have seen quite a few of the other doctors. You will too, because you hardly ever get Dr. V when you go in for a sick visit.

how so does everyone mean that he is old school?

it's funny cuz he was actually my doctor when i was a kid...

so naturally i thought of him as an option but don't know what this means exactly...

I can'thelp you with the ped but I will tell you this. I don't plan to vac my child until they are older, and I have been carefully planning out the delayed schedule then I will find a dr.

As for help B- it can live for up to 6 weeks on your shoe should you pick up blood somewhere. DH works where he is exposed to this often, and for us the risk of brining it home on his shoes or clothes that aren't washed right away is much to large to take the chance.

do more research on the diseases you don't want to vac against before assuming its transmitted thru sex only because Hep B is far from it. I'm not saying you should or should not vac against it, everyone needs to weight how their child will be exposed to stuff and go from there.

My DC won't be in daycare and/or traveling on an airplane early on so for us not vac against the common things will work. and remeber, when you do vac, it sometimes takes weeks-months for the vac to actually protect your child.

Or the younger Ancona - Dr. Keith is great. I don't alter the schedule at all but he seems like he'd be willing to do so.
I didn't get the hep B for any of my kids in the hospital. Actually he's the one who told me it wasn't necessary.

Funny b/c I usually get her for sick visits as well. I have even walked in with no appt and gotten to see her (DS took a bad fall) I guess I have just been lucky! (DS doesnt get sick that often) I even love her assistant. And feel they are always available, I even called them from the ferry to CT once for medical advice!!

But I have seen/met a few of the other drs in the past 4 years and have liked pretty much every one. I went there b/c they were highly recommended to me and since starting there I have learned of 5-10 other parents I know (who I never asked prior) who take their kids there as well.

But you wont get any alternative vaccination schedule.

Sorry I dont have any other recommendations. but Good Luck with your search.
