What age did you start your DD in dance?

and what age do you think is best?

DD is 2 and I can't wait but am wondering if I should wait till 2.5 or 3?

I just started Lily this year, and she's 4.

I'm not sure of the best age to start....but a few of the girls in her class started last year.

DD was 3 and turned 4 half way through the year. She had a hard time following at first and was obsessed with looking at herself in the mirror. By the time she turned 4 she started to get better. She just started her second year today and I can already see a difference. I guess the best time to start is when they can listen and follow directions.

Today was my dd's first day. She'll be 4 in Nov. There were 2 year old twins there that screamed and cried for about 20 minutes until the teacher brought them out to their parents. I think they were too young. I'm glad I waited until this year.

Today was our first day also. The girls are almost 3. They will be 3 in Nov. They loved it and did not cry at all.

Jaidy's first class was today and she is 4 (will be 5 in Nov). I would have started her last year but it just didn't work in our schedule. I think when they are 2 it is super cute but they are just to young, kinda like throwing your money away KWIM. This is of course IMHO. I will also add that I had no interest in dance at all when I was a kid so that prob played into my decision too! Jaidy is the complete opposite of me though, she is all about being a princess and I was like an elephant doesn't wear a tu-tu

I just signed her up her first class is 9/21 she turned 3 in July

I have a dear friend who taught dance to preschoolers/toddlers. She said the *best* age is 4, or a "really mature" 3. Anything younger than 3 should not be an organized class requiring them to follow too many directions in that it might be too much structure for LOs.

I did a Mommy and Me type creative movement class with Eliza when she was 2 (brand new 2). It was mostly the teacher throwing out fun activities and us chasing our little ones around the gym equiptment.

my two grand daughters just started Jazmyn is 3 and Shaylee just turned 6

my dd was 2.5 and had a blast and loved it. I think it depends on the child and the school. We have a great school with patient and friendly teachers who make it more then just dance. Of course there were kids that cried because they had separation anxiety, but the majority of the 2.5 year-olds were just fine and did great at their recital.

I was waiting until she became potty trained, and age 3.

We started over the summer - 3.5 years old.

in my experience i would wait...i tried it with dd this summer and she is 3. she would dance one week and then refuse the next. maybe we'll try again next fall when she's 4. actually, i'll probably try irish step dancing at that time since that's when you can usually start them and that's what i did as a kid so i'm hoping dd will love it :)

Thanks all! I think I'll wait till she's 3, I just am so excited about it!!! I did dance for 10yrs as a kid and it was fun! She loves to dance Maybe I'll do a tumbling tots class w/her (for 2-3yr olds) or just wait it out till 3

My DD just started a two year old creative movement class. She enjoys it and the other kids do also. The school has some of the 11and 12 yo students helping out with the little ones and a teacher. They do a lot of songs like head and shoulders, ring around the Rosie, etc... This week they were teaching them how to skip, and they are working on 1st and 2nd positions.
