Oh here we go again...another warning...spray sunscreen

I probably should've figured as much. Telling us to not use spray sunscreens until testing is completed. Fun!

Re: Oh here we go again...another warning...spray sunscreen

I had a feeling this was a BAD idea. The fumes are awful....and worse...since it's cold DD would breathe in quickly when I spray her. One Coppertone one I used, even for myself...even when I sprayed it into my hand and applied on my face, had such an ALCOHOL smell. I couldnt shake the smell for a while.

So there go those. No more sprays for us. I should have gone with my gut. Luckily we only used them about 5 times.

Ugh! See I knew it too and I should have listened to my GUT instinct. Everyone convinced me its easier and safe. I use both spray and regular lotion. I started using the spray this year. I'm so mad.

Re: Oh here we go again...another warning...spray sunscreen

i didnt read the article, but i refuse to use the sprays.
i dont think they are really all that convient because i cannot see how you wouldnt have to rub them in too. even with a spray tan its streaky if you spray it on your own body so i feel it would be the same with sunscreen and not really get every spot you need it to get.

I use Coppertone Water Babies lotion spray. No issues with an odor. It doesn't go all over the place. It is lotion.. It is common sense not to spray in in the face and not to use it when windy.. I spray it in my hand and apply it to DS's face and ears and neck..It is easy to use.

Re: Oh here we go again...another warning...spray sunscreen

This article makes me chuckle as I was just at the beach with DS this week and a dad from the next blanket procedes to chase his son, while spraying sunblock, and not an ounce of the white plume of smog gets on him! He was just about to catch DS in the mist. If he continued, I was about to give him a "dude! Really?!".

It was funny but in a "did he really just do that" kind of way. And now with this article, not so funny.

This is why I was the only one to reply in a previous post about how often do you reapply sunblock to DC. I rarely do. It's a chemical that stops the effects of the sun, and we all know what the sun is capable these days. That's some serious "lotion"! Chat Icon Sure it's a wonder cream but I'd rather limit DS' sun exposure. He's just as happy digging in the sand under the shade of the umbrella.

Wow... I have only used Blue Lizard Cream even though the lotion is so annoying but I thought it was best... so I guess I will just continue to do as I thought hahaha lol Funny though b/c my friend had the spray and I was thinking of getting it this week bc it looked so much easier then the nonsense I was going through but I guess its worth it in the end.

are they referring to aerosol sprays? I use water babies but it's a pump spray so no alcohol smell at all.

There is nothing worse than inhaling the fumes of everyone spraying this crap at the beach/pool. When it's windy, I don't think any lands on their skin! I wish they would ban it!

Totally off subject, what is she wearing that is keeping her upright and her face out of the pool? And how old is she? Thanks... I haven't been able to find some thing for DS that keeps him upright so well!

She just turned 2. I taught both my boys how to swim without anything before they were 3, but I dont think shell be ready untiul next summer. She has on a full suit from knees to elbows. I have like 6 of them LOL It has a floatie inside it from back to stomach. By itself she is not able to keep her face out of the water so I put it on her to shield her from the sun. I put the water wings on her to help keep her upright. With both shes unsinkable LMAO and independent from me at least :)

I didn't read the article , can't open the link , but I never use a spray sunscreen on DD , or even DH and I , I don't want her or us accidentally breathing any of it in , god only knows what's in it... JMO.

Re: Oh here we go again...another warning...spray sunscreen

I think most of the article is common sense. I don't want to breathe in the fumes from spray sunscreen so why would i want my child to breathe it in. We do use spray, lotion and the face stick. Our rules are no spray sunscreens in the face. I see which way the wind is blowing and make sure that my DD isn't going to get any in the face. I guess i'm pretty lucky in that 90% of the time my DD's stand there and love getting the sunscreen on so we've never gotten the spray in the face. For those other 10% of the times i do have the lotion. As for the face with have the block stick which is the best invention out there and keeps from getting sunscreen in the eyes and from it running in the eyes in the water.
