C-section Moms............Question

Background: I conceived my DD with the help of an RE back in 2008. We had an IUI, no meds, and conceived on the first try. DD was born via C-section in Sept. 2008. Last year we were TTC #2 and I had multiple IUI's WITH Clomid and about 5 of them failed and the 3 that took ended in miscarriage. One didn't implant right, one was a chemical, and one had improper hcG rises.

So here is my question..............being that it was so easy to conceive DD do you think that having a C-section could be a contributing factor in why I am having so much trouble conceiving and getting a pregnancy to stick now? Unfortunately, right before we were going to have the recurrent miscarriage panel our insurance maxed out on IF treatments so we never really got any answers.

So those that had a C-section with #1............was it hard to conceive your subsequent kids? Did your C-section cause any permanent damage? Just wondering. It's just been so frustrating and now that we're on our own with this I am wondering if I will ever get lucky now and be able to conceive again. So what do you guys think? TIA! Chat Icon

Re: C-section Moms............Question

I had a C Section with DD in Jan 2010.
Dont know if it matters but C Section was due to a failed induction...DDs heartrate was erratic after induction so C Section.

Knew we wanted them close..started trying for #2 when DD was about 6 or so months old. Never ever though I'd get PG within 2 months after stopping BCP- but I did.

So, for me, no I dont believe the C- section had any impact on concieving #2. This has also been an uncomplicated pregnancy.

Best of luck.

Re: C-section Moms............Question

Nope. I had IUI without meds for 8 cycles between TTC both of my kids. Abby was an emergency c-section. I had 3 IUIs to TTC Jeremy. One didnt take. One was a loss and one was Jeremy. I don't think the c-section had anything to do with my loss - in fact I know it didnt. The loss was a trisomy 16.

Re: C-section Moms............Question

I did wonder about this after my csection with Jack because it took three months to conceive him and six to conceive Tyler.

Have you spoken to your doctors about this? I did get pregnant again though and we weren't trying. THat was after my second csection.

Re: C-section Moms............Question

I had a c-section with my first son in 03. I went off birth control when he was 1 and didn't conceive my second son until 08 and we were actively trying.

I think having excessive scar tissue from my first c-section could have made it hard for a egg to implant in my uterus.

During my second c-section, they said I had a lot of scar tissue and removed a lot of it.

I then got pregnant with my daughter 6 months later. Big surprise.

Sometimes just the stress of wanting to get pregnant can hinder getting pregnant.

Good Luck:)

Re: C-section Moms............Question

3 c-sections here.

DS#2 was conceived the 1st month trying.

DD was also conceived the 1st month trying.

So no, I had no problems conceiving after having had c-sections.

Re: C-section Moms............Question

I had three c/s.

I got pregnant with DD#1 on the first try.

DS was an unplanned pregnancy when DD was 7 months old. A one shot deal.

DD#2 was concieved on the second month trying. But the first month was very stressful, as my mom was in hospice and passed away so I think that alone was the reason it took two months.

I'm fertile myrtle over here!

Re: C-section Moms............Question

With my first pregnancy, I knew I was going to need a C-section as Aidan was breech. I wound up going into labor 2 weeks before my scheduled section and had an emergency c-section. Aidan was also the result of seeing a RE. We tried for a year on our own and couldn't get pregnant. I got pregnant with Julian very easily. In fact, we weren't even trying to get pregnant. Julian was a total surprise.

Re: C-section Moms............Question

I chose not to pursue medical fertility treatments or the advice of an RE, but it took us several years to get PG with DS1. I had a c-section, due to a complete previa. It was a complicated surgery, as the baby & the placenta had to be removed simultaneously. I had a very rough recovery. I was 33 when I had 1st DS.

I got pg with DS2 on our first try, when DS1 was 1 year.

So for me, I do not think that the c-section complicated anything.
