how often do you go to the OB?

I'm newly pregnant and I'm just wondering how often and when you go to the OB assuming everything is fine. my boss is not very good with allowing us to take any time off (even if you have the days) so I'm just trying to figure out what I need to be prepared for. (my boss does not know and I don't plan on telling him until I am really showing)

I'm hoping my ob has extended hours and maybe I can get there when I'm not working.

You'll go every four weeks in a "normal" pregnancy until later in your pregnancy. My practice does every four weeks to 32w, then every two weeks, then from 36w on, every week. This is in an "uncomplicated" pregnancy.

generally it's about once every 4 weeks... then when you further along you start going more frequently (once in the 3rd trimester).

If you are seeing a specialist then they usually have you visit more often.

great thanks! currently I am under the care of a specialist, which has amazing hours, I go there very early in the morning so my boss doesn't even know. I have been going every few days for blood work. they said they will do a sono at 6 weeks and as long as everything is ok Chat Icon I go back to my ob Chat Icon I'm so sad to think of the day I have to leave them, they are so wonderful and have the best hours!

Re: how often do you go to the OB?

You normally go every 4 weeks but I had appts at 7, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20w... and then it will be 22, 26, 28...

7, 11, 14, 18 were at my OB (although after my 7w I also went to the lab for a dating sono). the 12, 16 and 20w were diagnostic sonos at the lab not at my OB's office. 22, 26, 30 etc... will be at my OB and I'm going for another sono at 28w to check my placenta!

It really adds up to a lot of appts! Chat Icon (edit: but it's all worth it!)

its 1000% worth it, I just need to do a little planning. I might even change to a different ob for better office hours because I don't want to risk anything. my boss is one of those people always looking for a reason to fire people Chat Icon

I was seeing an RE in the beginning. After 3 beta tests (done at a quest lab) I had my first sono at 6 week. I then had weekly appts until week 9, when I graduated.

I then scheduled the OB for the week I left the RE so week 10.

All those appts are usually just one appt if you are seeing a reg OB from the beginning.

After the week 10 appt, I came back for the NT scan week 12. Because I started bleeding, I came back twice during week 13. Then i switched dr's and had an appt at week 16. After that was the 20 week level 2 appt. I think I've had 2 appts since then. But now they are more spaced out, which is how they would have normally been all along.

just to give you a more specific idea.

Re: how often do you go to the OB?

i go once a month (so far)- i'm 18 weeks. i'm fortunate in that my ob has late hours so I can make appointments after work. i also compromise and see other doc's in the practice who are available at later hours so I don't need to miss work. i'm trying desperately to keep all of my days banked and not take days for appointments.

Re: how often do you go to the OB?

I go once a month. It's convenient that my doctor has evening hours on Tuesday and he has 3D sonos there, so everything can be done at once when I come in. He said starting at 35 weeks, I'll have to come every week.
