Re: Birth Control Costs

Yikes! When I was on the pill, it cost about $15 a month with insurance. After my 2nd baby, it went up to $25 so I got the IUD instead. All I paid was my co-pay and it lasted up to 5 years.

Re: Birth Control Costs

I have Aetna also, and I just went to fill my new Rx for Natazia and it was free! I almost fell over, b/c I heard it was supposed to be super expensive and even got a savings card in the sample box!

Re: Birth Control Costs

I feel your pain! Mine is $50 a pack now too. I do it online and it is a little cheaper, but not much.

Re: Birth Control Costs

That stinks. I take Yaz and pay about $12 a month for it because my MD prescribes the generic version. I have Blue cross/ Blue shield.

Re: Birth Control Costs

I work at CVS Pharmacy. You should also call your insurance to see what BCP they cover with the cheapest co-pay so when you call your OB you can give a list. Many times the MD will change med because of a high co-pay but then the changed med. at times is either not covered or still have the same copay. Also look into mail-orders. Some insurance will only charge you for 2 months co-pay but get a 3 month supply. As someone here suggested, look into Costco too.

I heard Yaz didn't have a generic... is this new? It's the only BC that works for my hormone issues because of it's unique combo of hormones but my insurance stopped covering non generics prescriptions so I had to go off BC altogether

I was in the same situation as you not too long ago. I was on Loestrin and then the $24 a pack thing ran out. I called up the service that offered the discount and they said that now they only offer $24 off of whatever your insurance covers. For me that would be around $50 per month. I tried getting my doctor to prescribe me a generic and it was also around $50 per month. I decided to go off of it since I plan to TTC at the end of the summer anyway and should get my cycles back to normal, but was not planning on stopping BC until the beginning of summer... oh well... hope you find an alternate!

Re: Birth Control Costs

i was on loestrin for many, many years and i have to say... i loved it so much that i didn't care when I was paying $52 a pack. I know that's not what you want to hear lol. I just never found any other pill that really worked with me. I hope you can find something you like just as much!

I'm on Junel its a generic of Loestrin and $10 for a 3 month supply, $51 is crazy for a month, I would definitely see if you can be switched to something else

This is what I was on also but I just went off it

Anyways, I went on the loestrin last year because they apparently stopped making the cheap generic version of ortho tricyclen. At the time, there wasn't anything on the market that was really going to be cheaper.

I am still on the generic for Ortho Tricyclen (Tri-Sprintec) and I pay $10 for a 3 month supply.

Re: Birth Control Costs

The ridiculous price of birth control pills is the reason why I've switched to just having DH use condoms. So much less expensive and no chemicals in your body.

Re: Birth Control Costs

My pills are also $50 a month. It is so ridiculous. I have to go back to the dr anyway and I am going to see if they can prescribe something thats cheaper...

And this is on the Aetna plan. How are the other Aetna people getting theirs for free?

I am also on Loestrin. My card expired for the 24 dollar a month charge and my pharmacy told me to call the company and get a new card. I did. Check out their website. I got all the information over the phone and brought it to my pharmacy (CVS) and they took care of everything else...Back to paying 24 dollars for 12 months...

Re: Birth Control Costs

Same exact thing happened to me... I was paying $24 a month...then BOOM they wanted $51. No way can I afford that. I went to Planned Parenthood..and NO, you do NOT need to get another annual... just get your results from your OB and bring them with you... they still charge you for 'seeing' the doctor there...but it's for only once. I now pay $14 a month for the pill. HTH!

ITA. Especially since viagara is almost always covered and cheaper....its like w-t-f!

I'd find something else that is cheaper, there are a lot of other bcp options out there

are you insured? B/c there are 2 different programs and it says it on the card. Something like "insured patients $24, cash paying 24.00 discount"

which makes no F*** sense to me b/c if you're cash paying and have no insurance, or your insurance doesnt cover it like mine, why am I getting a $24 discount when someone insured and pays a co-pay gets to pay $24.00 only.

Re: Birth Control Costs

I personally think $51 for BCP is nothing. Try something else, condoms, or ask for a different BCP. $51 can be found in a budget; try cutting out the gym or eating out or something like that.

My last refill thru medco was 3 packs for $100. I was NOT happy..I won't have to worry about that for a while Chat Icon but when I go back on it...it will probably have gone up!

Everyone's budget is different. I don't think she asked for what she should cut out of her budget to pay for BC. It sounds like from most of the answers, $50/month is on the high end of paying for BC.
