loosing my mind - feeding 10 mth old

DS has been only eating stage 2 fruits, veggies and ceral since about 2 weeks ago.

finally, he is able to handle puffs, cheerios, bread, soft table foods.

now he REFUSES to eat baby food but he doesnt want anything other than puffs or toast Chat Icon i gave him bits of scrambled egg and he screamed. i added some puffs and he picked out every single puff and left the egg (same color - smart kid Chat Icon Chat Icon )

what do I do? how do i get him to try some of these newer foods? he is 10.5 months.

he is also taking maybe 18-24 oz of formula whereas he used to take 32 every single day. i dont think he is getting enough proper nutrition Chat Icon

is he on a vitamin?

Logan did the same thing while he was teething... same with a growth spurt... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would simply continue to offer foods throughout the day - soft foods. At times he would revert back to stage 1s with oatmeal.

He'll be ok.

Re: loosing my mind - feeding 10 mth old

We have similar issues with my DS- who is almost the same age.

He has been on cereal and stage two fruits and veggies for a while. But lately, he seems to prefer puffs and other "snack" foods to these.

Our latest "trick" is to put a bunch of puffs on his tray, then spoon feed him some fruits and veggies while he grabs at the puffs. It seems to workChat Icon

I just keep offering him a variety. I also keep the puffs out of sight (once he sees the package that's all he wants) until he eats some other foods. I offer cut up grilled chicken, and he loves Yo Baby meals (w/w sweet potato and applesauce).

He also takes in about 20 oz of formula a day. A lot less than earlier, but that is to be expected.

So we are in the same boat. It also seems like my DS is a lot pickier with food when teeth are breaking throughChat Icon

Give it time! I was so frustrated with my son's eating at 10 months. I thought he'd never eat table food. He screamed with eggs, chicken, etc. Now he devours eggs and chicken. Some kids instantly love it while others it's a slow painful process. But it will come.

my ped said that they should be drinking about 20-24 oz of formula so your dc is fine.. about the other food.. my ds hates eggs.. LOVES pancakes and waffles.. I keep trying the eggs too and get the same reaction as you... he's 10.5 months also and doesn't eat that much solids either, i think they just need the practice.. as long as they are getting the formula and bm you are fine.. that is their main source of nutrition anyway..

Re: loosing my mind - feeding 10 mth old

I'd agree to keep trying with new soft foods. So many things throw DD off day to day, sick, teething etc.

Some days she will devour a certain thing and the next day hate it! Its so frustrating...

Its normal to decrease the # of ounces at this age. I think DD was only taking like 22 around this age too!

As long as he is taking his vitamins im sure he will be ok!! When all else fails, try yogurt, fruit/veg with cereal and puffs. Theres been days where all DD ate was yogurt and a piece of cheese!
She once had a stomach bug and ate literally NOTHING for 3 days straight. Chat Icon Chat Icon

he did just cut his top front teeth so maybe thats it alsoChat Icon who knows, maybe other teeth are about to cut though i dont feel much else.

we will keep on keepin on. i just get so frustrated. do i take him out of the highchair when he is throwing these fits OR give in and give him the puffs and "snacks"?

i just feel awful ending the mealtime because of the tantrum for the puffs. he needs to eat Chat Icon

Just keep trying. The more you offer, the more likely he'll eat some of it.
Have you tried french toast? I buy Pepperidge Farm's whole what cinnamon raisin bread (not sure if it's milk free for him) and make french toast out of that and he gobbles it up! This way, I know he's getting protein at the very least.
How about adding a slice of soy cheese to an omelet?

Re: loosing my mind - feeding 10 mth old

We have the same problem over here. I recently tried fork mashed sweet potatos that I mushed all over my DD tray. She picked them up and ate it. She wants to chew food and pick it up herself but usually gags on most foods but was ok with the sweet potatos. I'm going to try fork mashed pears next. She likes the sweet stuff. I also tried bananas in a mesh saety feeder. Last month she gaged on it but today she tolerated it. She would eat puffs all day long if I let her....

My dd loves coconut yogurt by SO company. They have plain, vanilla, blueberry, mango flavors.

This has been working for DD as well. I also just started replacing the puffs with soft table foods like eggs and whole fruit and bread. It has been working so far but it did take a little bit of time to get her used to it. The screaming during meal times was just too much Chat Icon

Re: loosing my mind - feeding 10 mth old

Waffles, french toast, and pancakes were def the first things DD would take after puffs. I especially would push french toast since you know they're at least getting some protein then like another poster said. It definitely took DD awhile to graduate from puffs to table foods - I was so worried about it at the time and then eventually she just got it. Cheerios were also good. Good luck! Chat Icon
