Rome Hotels- Please help

DH and I want to go to Rome. Does anyone have any reccommendations for hotels?

Also, did anyone do any day trips to Capri or Pisa? If so, was it easy to do and did you feel that you had enough time to se ethings there

Thanks!

I studied abroad for 5 weeks in Italy. From what I remember, Pisa was only a couple of hours from Rome whereas Capri/Naples was about 6 hours. When we went to Capri, we were staying in Sorrento. We visited Pisa on our way to Siena from Rome.

We stayed here which was a couple of blocks from the Colosseum and Forum.

We stayed at the Capo D'Africa in Rome. Walking distance from the Coloseum and both of the Metro stations. We easily traveled to museums, the Vatican, basically everywhere around Rome from there. Hotel was nice, wonderful rooftop terrace to eat breakfast etc. When we went, they had a buy 3 nights, get the 4th night free, so that was a plus. I would definitely recommend it.

I stayed at the Hotel Portamaggiore. It wasn't the fanciest hotel, but I thought it was in a pretty good location (close to Metro, food, shopping, etc.). I'm not sure of the price because I did a package that included hotel, airfare & breakfast every day.

I also did day trips to Naples & Pompeii. It was about a 2 hour or so bus ride and then you could take a ferry to Capri from Naples, though I don't know how long that ferry ride would be.
