Re: R U almost 40 years old?

I was 40 when I went to see the RE at NSUH. I did 3 unmedictaed IUI's then went on to IVF. They transferred 4 and I ended up the the triplets. The DRs only gave me a 30% chance of it working bc of my age......

I wish all of you Good Luck and Never give up!!!!

Re: R U almost 40 years old?

I was 37 when I got PG with Abby and 38 when I had her. I was 39 when I got PG with Jeremy and 40 when I had him. Both were conceived through unmedicated IUIs - Abby on attempt #5 with #'s 1 and 4 not working and #s 2 and 3 ending in miscarriage AND Jeremy on attempt #3 after #1 not working and a miscarriage/D&C with #2. So my issues were not typical, but I felt as if my age may have contributed to the losses in regard to poor egg quality.

Hang in there ladies, if an old fart like me can do it, you can and will too but know you will be very tired when you are chasing your little ones around. Note I said WHEN and not IF. Good luck.

Also jumping in with my story.

Infertility was part of my life for almost 3 years. Started at 39 after a few chemicals and few m/c 2 months before my 42 birthday I got pregnant.

I mostly did iui"s didn't do well with ivf. Also changed up my protocol every few cycles.

Good Luck!!!

Re: R U almost 40 years old?

So heres a question, For you ladies that have unexplained IF and are poor responders.

Did your RE let you continue IVF until you felt you were done or did they give you no hope and point you to alternative ways to have a child?
OH and if you wouldnt mind sharing where you go and who you see? THanks

I did IVF with two other REs before this and they both wanted me to move to DE as soon as the first IVF failed. They were at SIRM and RMA. I now see Dr. Braverman and am moving to IVF #3 with him.

I first went to Columbia and did an IUI with them..their cut-off to do IVF and such is an FSH of 15. They gave me the donor egg speech at my first consult but I did an IUI there. I had just turned 43 when I started with them.

I am currently at SIRM and as far as I know, Dr. T will let you cycle as long as you like, but he will be honest with you. My last FSH reading in the fall was at 18.2. I did an IUi with him and my first IVF cycle with him. I am currently in the middle of my 2nd IVF cycle with him at the age of 44 with my last FSH reading being 18.2. Not a word about donor eggs ever. I think that this is because in my case, I make a lot of eggs for my age so he thinks I still may have a shot as long as I am willing to try. My issue however like most of us AMA ladies is egg quality and the never-ending pursuit of that golden egg.

FYI...I don't know if you have ever heard of Dr. Check at Cooper in New Jersey, but he is someone that TRULY works with everyone. I'm talking FSH numbers at nearly 100 and AMH at .1. if this is a concern, you might want to check him out. He takes a low stim approach. I may do one round with him if the higher stim approach does not work out for me before I move on to donor eggs.

Re: R U almost 40 years old?

First doc at NSUH told me to go to DE with a FSH of 18.2. I left and went to Cornell. I cried for 3 days straight. I was inconsolable.

Went to Cornell. FSH 8.2. Tried 2 cycles..and my cycles were converted to IUIs for low response.

I got pregnant on my own two summers ago. Miscarried.

Then I went to Dr. Braverman because I would always have a Crohn's flare when I cycled and I thought my immune issues were hurting my changes. Dr. B got two eggs out of me and we went to ER and ET. BFN. FSH there was 7.4.

Now I'm back at Cornell with a whole new low stim approach and I'm already having a better cycle.

ER Sunday or Monday.

Just trying to get to the 20% of my eggs that may be normal.

Dr. Davis at Cornell spoke about alternatives..we are not doing DE.

You are another luck girl to be with Dr. Davis!! Your FSH is great. I am convinced that lower stims might be the way to go with our older eggs so am happy to hear that you are having a better cycle on lower stims. I am still doing high/medium stims, but lowered the dosage for this cycle and was happy that my Dr. was into doing this. I feel so good about that.

Good luck to you on your ER!!

Thanks for all that info. My FSH numbers are good around 7.5 and everything else is normal so they see my age and say Poor responder low #of good eggs, 2 failed IVF and right to DE @ NSUH. my second opinion was pretty much them telling me well we could try another IVF and change to IUI if it is also a low response or DE. I sometimes think they dont think about the mental prep we have to go thru doing the meds and shelling out the $$. Even DE isnt for sure and 2X the cost.

Good luck to you
