Did anyone quit or considder quitting their job to stay home...
Because of kids getting sick all of the time?
Landon is always sick, but he is older.
The twins are only 6 months and have been sick constantly. You all know about the rsv and hospital stay early January. Kylie never fully recovered from that and now this morning both babies woke up sick again! I love working and i love their daycare but every time i drop them off and see kids with boogers hacking up a lung i get so much anxiety about them catching another sickness... And they always do.

I have never done daycare. But I always thought after a certain period of time they sort of build up their immunities and get sick less frequent.
I know they say when DS goes to school he will start bringing home a million germs. Thank goodness the twins will be nearly 3 months by then.
Have you asked them about their sick policy? I mean it is winter so everything is just festering. Hopefully we will get an early spring although that isn't looking too promising.

I know what you mean, and I know people who have quit for that reason, but to make you feel better, even if you were home, you'd be out at playdates and taking them to places w/ Landon and they'd be exposed to germs.  Will isn't in daycare and has been sick since mid-December constantly. I think this is just an awful winter for sickness, whether in daycare or not. And Landon will be bringing germs home from preschool too, so even if you are home with them, they'll be exposed through him.

I have thought about it many times but never have. The first winter in daycare is a killer but it passes. I have also seen plenty of kids that stay at home everyday get just as sick.

No, but I considered getting fired for taking so many days.
In all seriousness, this is the big hassle of having 2 working parents. Trading off who stays home, if you go in you want to be the one at home comforting them. And just the fact that they are getting sick so often so young. At least if one person was home, there would be no guess work if the kids are ready to go back to day care and concern over when the next germ will hit.
However, no, I still haven't considered quitting and neither has DH. Though it seems likes they get sick a lot-in reality, our kids have been sick 2-3 times all of last year (not including Owen's ear infections which I think are more about Owen's ears than about day care).
It's still such a small thing in comparison to all that our careers provide to our family. If I had a child who had a known illness that was ongoing, I would give more thought to the idea.
Hope your kids get better soon-like someone said, the first year in day care or school is the hardest-whether it is now or in kindergarten. It's tough when they are so little though

my old neighbor had her daughter in daycare. she was sick all the time, and even had a seizure from high fever! as soon as she had the seizure my neighbor quit her job and had another baby. she is still home w/ them (oldest is 9)
I def. agree with her reasoning to leave your job, you can't even enjoy your off time bc kids are always sick
and you have twin babies that are getting sick, It might not be worth it for you to keep working.
I'm home w/ my kids (2 YO and 8 MO) they have been sick twice this whole winter. first was very minor cold, the last time, my DS was w/ his cousins (they are in daycare )and he got roseola w/ 104.5 fever

Yes, it drives me nuts and DD is 4. She finally kicked her month-long cold/cough last Tuesday, went to school on Friday and was coughing again by Saturday afternoon. Drives me nuts. I know you had some really good reasons for not wanting someone coming to your house to watch them, but this is a major reason why I'm leaning towards this option for the first 6-12 months (if I end up going back to work)
I think this is only temporary and this winter has been super bad for sicknesses. I have never been so sick before ever. I think the end is in sight (distantly -- April is only 2 months away, hopefully then all of these germs will magically disappear  )

I haven't but have kept the boys out pretty much every winter for 3 months or so - luckily MIL is around in winters.
Ryan's first winter he stayed with ILs January - March
Last yr the were both out November-June
And this yr I'm keeping Colin home thru march and Ryan is going PT in this time period.
It's so difficult when they're constantly sick

Luckily DD hasn't really gottne sick from daycare yet.
But also luckily, my job is so flexible I can work from home if I have to.
Not that I get much done when she is home with me.
But it's better than the alternative of having to take days off every time she gets sick.
It's hard, I know!

Yes, and DS is only in daycare 2 days/wk. He is literally sick twice a month--one week he is sick, the next week recovers the following week sick again.
I try to tell myself that this is GOOD...he is building his immunity and a few sniffles aren't awful...but I absolutely hate it.

Same here. They only go 2 days and I only work 2 days.
I love love love my job, it's pt, flexible, pays well, I have my own department, etc. I think the issue here is guilt, since I don't HAVE to work and am working by choice. But i know older ds will bring home germs anyway.
The good news is, the babies are fine now! They work up congested but as the day went on it's gone. Hoping everyone stays healthy!

I took my daughter out of daycare when she was 11 mths because she kept getting sick, and then I kept getting sick, and I was pregnant and the Dr said it was not good for me. My parents watched her until I was on maternity for my second.
When I went back to work, I got a nanny largely because I didn't want them getting very sick at a young age. But, now that they are 1 and 2, we just started daycare again yesterday.
Staying home isn't an option for me for financial reasons. DH could stay home, but he could never handle being a sahd.

I had anxiety when DS was an infant and I was still working FT.
I started worried about it again. I am now working 2 days during the week since September and DS is in preschool. I worry about either him being sick or school closing. This is so nerve wrecking honestlly. I loved only working on weekends. I was never worrying about it. DH was taking care of DS sick or not and school closings did not matter.

I agree this could be a better option
My niece had RSV and was in the hospital when she was around 8 months old.
To this day she has never recovered and has severe asthma from it.
She got it from daycare

I did not quit my job to stay home with DS1, but when I got laid off I stopped looking for a job when DS had RSV & was sick literally for 5 months straight. Even attempting to send him to daycare would have been an exercise in futility, because he was sick or feverish almost all the time. Had I been working I either would have tried to work out something to WAH, or I would have indeed quit.

I think that aligning the sickness to "daycare" kids is a little misleading. The difference between the at home and daycare is only exposure, much like have more than one child exposes the younger kids at an earlier age.
Bella was sick a few times (felt like all the time) her first year/in daycare and then built up a pretty awesome immunity and rarely got sick for the next 4 years in daycare. My nieces stayed home until pre-k and literally passed around colds and illness months when they started school.
It's also the time of year. Other than Bella's ever present allergies, she hasn't been sick for over a year...in the last two weeks she has had the flu (with a flu shot) and strep....
As a working parent, winter is like a war! And add the weather in lately...yikes!

i don't know...this might be true etc. but i have plenty of SAHM friends whose kids are sick ALLLLL the time. my DD has been in daycare for 2 years and i can count on one hand how many times she's been seriously sick (thank God!) my DS had more illnesses b/c of ear infections but luckily nothing more serious either. some kids are more prone to getting sick. yes, daycare ups the chances i guess. but so do the shopping carts at Target, library classes. gymboree, playdates, dr. visits, relatives visits etc.
have i considered quitting b/c of my kids being sick? i have! i am a one man show (DH cannot take off-works in city) so the burden is on me and taking the time off is majorly stressful. but i do like what i do and know that one day...one day in the future that keeping my amazing job will benefit everyone. so that keeps me going.
you might want to consider an in home babysitter instead of daycare if that's an option.
